"Dad," August complained. He knocked on the door before him again, his eyebrows furrowed. "How long are you going to be?" he exclaimed. "You've been in there for half an hour!! Are you asleep in there or something?!"
As always, August's father didn't reply, chortling to himself just to piss his son off. August huffed, rolling his eyes, trudging his way down the corridor. Since breakfast, August had tried to get into the bathroom twice, and both times his father was still in there. Who shits for that long?! He was going to get haemorrhoids, and then he could suffer for all August cared.
Without a second thought, August pushed open the door to his mother's bedroom, about to use her bathroom instead.
He was met with a yelp. August froze.
In his frustration, he had completely forgotten that someone else was living in here now.
"Oh my god." August slammed the door shut.
His pupils shook. He couldn't even process what had just happened. Oh gods. He was so fucking stupid.
Lucien was getting dressed. She was holding a dress in front of her, like she was checking to see if it would suit her in front of the mirror, and just about managed to cover herself with it when the door opened. She didn't say a thing, and only stared at August with wide eyes, having frozen also.
August swiftly snapped out of it, releasing the door handle as he stepped back, staring at the now closed door. "I'm so sorry!!!" he exclaimed. "Force of habit, I swear! I'm so sorry!!!!!"
He heard no reply from Lucien. His gaze fell, the image flashing in his mind momentarily.
Her arms...
August swallowed, fiddling with his ear for a moment. "Are you okay..?" he asked softly. "Ugh, I'm an idiot," he muttered beneath his breath. "I'm so sorry."
"I'm okay," he finally heard a small mumble. "It's- it's okay..."
Her voice sounded startled. He couldn't blame her. Of all the things he could've walked into her doing, it had to be at a moment where she was the most vulnerable.
And the worst part was, the door to the other bathroom had opened now. August death glared his father down the corridor, but, of course, he didn't even realise. "You can go in now!" his father sang. And then, he casually made his way downstairs.
August rubbed a hand over his face, before making his way to the bathroom. He hurriedly finished up in there, before approaching his mother's room again. Lucien was still inside.
Things were definitely going to be awkward now. He had to remedy it. Somehow.
August's hand hovered over the door for moment. Though, just as he was about to knock, to his surprise, the door swung open.
Once again, Lucien yelped, jumping back at the sight of him. August dropped his arm, immediately stepping back also.
"Oh-" He cleared his throat. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
Lucien's head dropped, rubbing her arm. August raised an eyebrow when he realised that she wasn't wearing the dress she was checking out before. She was just wearing her same old pale pink one, the one she had been wearing during breakfast also. It had long sleeves, with black cuffs at her wrists. She had... simply changed back.
"It's okay," she whispered again.
"Were you... um..." August sucked in a breath. "Are you headed somewhere?"
Lucien tilted her head. "What do you mean..?"
August averted his gaze. "I mean... the dress you were looking at looked nice. I mean, I didn't really look, obviously- Uh-" He smacked his face. I'm making it so much worse!
