Fengjiu's POV

I stood up slowly from the steps where Djuin had left me-not broken, but quieter. Emptied. Lighter, maybe. Or just... exhausted.

The wind had turned colder. My fingers were still trembling from the conversation. But I had made a choice.

It was time.

Time to stop standing at the same gate, waiting for someone who never looked back.

So I brushed the dirt off my robes and headed toward the Sky Hall. Toward home.

Toward the family I hadn't seen in days.

---

The palace gates opened the moment the guards spotted me. The dragon crest gleamed on the tiled roof, and lights spilled warmly from the inner rooms. It was already evening quiet blue had settled over the skies.

I entered slowly, unsure how tell me whole details

Apparently, a full-scale intervention.

As I stepped into the room, five heads turned toward me at once.

"Fengjiu!" my aunt called out, half-rising. She was still glowing after wedding, her new husband sitting beside her, calm but concerned.

"Jiujiu," my mother's voice trembled slightly, but her posture was graceful as ever. "Where have you been?"

At the far end, my second uncle-the one married to the Phoenix uncle-looked unusually serious. His phoenix uncle nodded in greeting, worry etched into his usually impassive expression.

And then there was my father.

King of Eastern Qingqiu. Unsmiling. Regal. Terrifying.

He stood. "You disappeared for the whole one month. No word. No tracking spell. No guards. And now you return as if nothing happened?"

I bowed my head. "I'm sorry, Father."

He didn't speak for a long time.

Then, in a quiet voice-so soft I almost missed it-he asked, "Are you hurt?"

I blinked.

"No. Not at all ," I answered. "But I was teleported somewhere ... I can't use magic that's why i couldn't inform you all."

My aunt gently patted the cushion beside her. "Come. Sit. You don't have to speak right away. Just let us see you."

I hesitated, then walked to them, folding into the seat.

Everyone looked at me like I might disappear again.

I began, my voice barely a whisper. "I was... teleported to some unknown island. I wasn't alone, though. Djuin was with me. But when I opened my eyes, I was lying on the sand-unharmed, but powerless, just like any mortal. I sat up and scanned my surroundings, only to spot a figure lying not too far from me. I stood and approached, heart racing. To my shock, it was Djuin. Something was... wrong. There was something strange wrapped around his arms. I somehow managed to remove it, but no matter how much I tried, I couldn't wake him up. He stayed unconscious for two whole weeks."

I paused for a moment, the memory creeping back. "I couldn't leave him like that. So I tied him to my back and climbed the highest mountain on the island. It took three days to reach the summit, but when I got there, it was all worth it. The entire island was a barren desert, but the mountaintop- it was alive. Greenery everywhere, and a beautiful waterfall cascading down into the valley below."
