"Mom?" Amyra's face lit up as she ran up to hug the woman. I just stayed put on the couch, waiting to hear why she was here. I was also hoping that she wouldn't mention Shawn...
"Amira." My dad spoke. He signaled for me to follow him into the kitchen. "Why is she here?" I snapped. "Calm down. Okay? Your mom has been struggling and there are some people looking for her and after she promised to get a job to save up before she left, I told her she was okay to stay with us. Only for a month or so till she's back on her fe-" "No, Dad. She does this all the time-" "Amira, I understand how you may be feeling, but-" "Dad no!" I shouted. "Do not yell at me! This is my house and until you're out of it, you need to stay in a child's place. I've already made the decision." I stood there surprised as he pushed by me and back into the living room. I felt a breakdown coming on. I grabbed my jacket off the arm of the couch and rushed out of the house, ignoring their calls.
Once again, I found myself heading to this park. Just crying.
I stopped at the end of the street. I hadn't made it to the park yet, but I saw the figure of a person at the end of the street.
The person turned to face me and it was who I thought it was. It was Shawn. I could tell he was smiling. I rushed to him, basically throwing myself into his arms as if we hadn't just seen each other. I hated him seeing me so emotional all the time, so I took this chance to wipe my face. A sniffle escaped. He pulled away to look at me. "You crying?" He asked. "No." I lied. He laughed. "What happened, baby girl?" He said in such a sincere tone. "I just..I hate her." I spoke. "Don't say that. She's your mom." He said. I shook my head. "You don't know her. She's disgusting. She used to take us to crack houses while she was in the back room getting high, or selling herself to get her high. She even-" I paused, as he stared at me for me to continue. "My brother doesn't even live with us anymore, he's staying with my grandma in Florida and sometimes I wish I was too." I admitted. He just listened. "My sister will never be the same." I said. "What do you mean?" He asked. I trusted him enough to tell him about some of our past. "Our Mom kidnapped us before. I was like 13 and Myra was 12. She was staying with some man. He was a pimp. When we were there...Amyra was assaulted and I couldn't do anything about it." I cried harder. "She was only twelve and that b****, she- my mom blamed it on us. She just dropped us off at the police station and we didn't see her for a while after that. She never apologized and..Myra still loves her. She's just so confused now and it's not her fault and I know I'll never understand what she went through, but how could she forgive mom aft-" "Wait, is she staying with you guys now?" He asked. "Yeah." I answered sadly. "Why would your dad let her? Doesn't he know?" He seemed heated about it too. "He knows, but when it comes to my mom, he's soft." I explained. "I just don't get how they could pretend like she'll change. She won't." I said as I wiped my face. He nodded and hugged me. It was so calming. "Why were you just out here?" I asked. He chuckled. "I knew you'd be on your way." He said. "Oh.." I smiled, leaning away from him, but he wouldn't unwrap his arms from around me. "You can't stay out here all night." He said quietly. "I know." I replied. He leant forward, pecking my nose with his lips. "I'm gonna head home now." I said. "I'm coming with you." He replied, taking my hand. It was nice, just to be around him. I loved it. We just walked back in silence, but it was a comfortable silence.
When we arrived, we had said our goodbyes and parted ways. I walked into the house and was surprised to see that all the lights were out and it looked like everyone was sleeping now.
I went up the stairs. I opened my door and was surprised to see my mom, sitting on the bed. She had my photo album in her hands. "I-I'm sorry, I just..I'm sorry." She responded hastily, putting the book on the bed, standing. "I'm gonna go to bed so.." I looked toward the door, hoping she'd get the hint. "I uh...I wanted to talk." She replied. "I'm tired." I lied. "Please.." She pleaded. I sighed, taking a seat next to her. "I am so sorry about what I have do-" "You say that all the time. I know." I said. "I just want you to know that you can talk to me about anything. I'm your mom and I want to know all of you. You can even talk to me about the boy who was just here." She raised a brow. "Don't worry about him." I shot back. "Listen, I am your mom and I don't just want you hoeing around." I stopped her there. "Hoeing around? Mom, you don't care about me or any of your kids. Don't worry about me. I've never sold my body for anything. That's what a hoe does and your the only one in this house that has been hoeing around, just to put a needle in your arm-" She slapped me. I was shocked. She actually slapped me. I was so taken back. "I'm sorry-" "Get out!" I yelled. "Baby, I'm sorry, I just..I didn't mean to react that-" "just go!" She sat up and left quickly. I was so disgusted by her. What makes her think that she can put her hands on me?
Hoeing around??
