The song lyrics may not apply to what happens in this chapter but I loved listening to these while writing and rereading it.
You don't have to listen to these exactly but I highly recommend having some music in the background for this. I think it's ten times much better with than without. Either way, enjoy my loves.
Chapter 47
Treasure's POV:
The morning sun slipped through the tall windows, casting golden light across the bedroom. I laid on my side, eyes half-closed, watching the way Elijah's chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm beside me.
He looked peaceful in sleep, younger, almost. Less like the man who could order a killing with a nod, and more like the boy who wished to be normal.
I hovered my fingers just above his skin, aching to trace the curve of his jaw. I didn't. I didn't deserve to.
My body still ached from the night before, but it was the ache in my chest that was slowly tearing me apart. I watched him breathe, memorizing the way his lips parted with every exhale. I didn't want to blink — didn't want to miss the last time I would ever see him like this.
And I hated myself for what I was about to do to him.
If I could stay here forever, I would've. But forever was never mine to have.
A sigh escaped my lips as I slipped out of bed quietly, wrapping one of his shirts around me, the fabric swallowing me whole. His scent clung to it - leather, smoke, and something warmer underneath. I stood by the window, letting the silence wrap around me like a punishment.
I lied to him every single day and here's karma coming to bite my ass sooner than I thought she would. We all knew she was coming but who knew karma could be so brutal?
I lean my head onto the glass window. "I'm sorry," I whispered. "I never meant to hurt you." I said to no one in particular. If only he could hear me.
The sheets shifted behind me.
"You always talk to yourself in the morning?" His voice was rough with sleep, lazy, and warm. If the situation was different I would've thought that he sounded sexy but for all the reasons in the world I couldn't get my mind to think anything positive.
I felt sick. Nauseous. The only mission that managed to get me like this.
I turned, forcing a small smile. "Only when I'm plotting something." I tried to look vicious almost like a villain.
He softly chuckled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Come back to bed."
I didn't move. I wanted to. God, I wanted to climb back in and forget what was coming. But I couldn't let myself get lost in him again, not when I was about to lose him forever.
"I will. Just need a minute," I murmured. He continues to look at me but I turned away, looking back at the view. I couldn't get lost in his eyes. Not right now.
Not even ten seconds later, there were shuffling sounds behind me again. His feet hitting the floor started to get closer and closer to me. His hands found my hips before they began wrapping around me.
I couldn't help myself as I melted into him. I closed my eyes, enjoying his hard warm chest against my back. I leaned my head back onto his broad chest.
