Chapter 44
Treasure's POV:

I silently cleaned the bathroom, controlling my breathing to avoid panic. As I passed Elijah on the bed, I searched for cleaning supplies. When walking back up the stairs i noticed that his steps left a trail of blood.

After restoring his bathroom, I cleaned his path. I scrubbed the bedroom floor until it was white, unlike the bathroom that was stained with dried blood.

Before cleaning the rest of the house, I checked on him, ensuring that he was breathing. I sat next to him, watching his chest rise and fall.

Relieved, I whispered, "I'm sorry." I couldn't help myself; I feared that the next time I apologized, he might not believe me. Screams, yells, and commotions might drown out my words that he wouldn't hear nor believe me.

I moved his hair away from his face, and he remained calm, relaxed, and authentic. I'll miss that about him. He's not like this when awake. I couldn't help but laugh at the future memories I'll rewind. That's all I'll have.

I'll never forget my hard-hearted mafia crush. I kissed his forehead, freed from his hair, and resumed cleaning.

By the time I finished wiping his blood from the floor, the sun rose, bringing light into the house. I opened windows and the balcony door to let the bleach smell fade. I remembered my mother's advice: put rosemary or something pleasant on the stove with water to freshen the air. The house soon smelled homey again.

Exhausted, I couldn't sleep. I made an early breakfast to keep myself occupied. I took it upstairs and sat on the balcony to watch him.

Hours later, I had eaten, showered, and even napped, but he remained unconscious. I checked his breathing and pulse every minute, but nothing. "T, are you still there?" Devontae spoke from the phone.

"Yes. He's still unconscious." I looked at his chest rising and falling. Devontae called, to check up on me from last night's panic.

"You said he lost a lot of blood. Let him rest." I nodded, though he couldn't see.

"How's it going over there?" I switched the subject.

"We left James and Amari at the hotel. Santi and I made it to the first exit tunnel." I heard the car park.

"Happy digging." I stepped out onto the balcony, closing the doors behind me.

"We're not digging yet. James thought about how the guards in the tunnels will eventually leave to eat, shit, pee or to switch. No guard can stay on post for 24 hours without doing one of those things. So they can either-"

"come from the house or through the exit." I finished his theory.

"Exactly. So until the boys hack into the house, we're going to be scoping around the area to see if there's anything we could have missed, like guards, cameras, or pre-dug tunnels." That's smart. We literally have no time to wait around, so they're finding out answering digitally and manually.

"Good idea. Be careful though, because if there are guards and cameras, then the whole mission is fucked."

"We will. You too." I hung up the phone.

This is really happening. I looked behind me to see him through the glass still laying on his back. I opened the door, walking back to him taking a seat next to him. "Why are you still not awake?" I spoke to him even if he couldn't hear me.

"I told your ass to go to a professional but your hard ass head could never listen to me for once." At this point I didn't mind that I was speaking to him without any responses back. It was actually nice talking to him any way that I wanted with no sassy ass comment.
