Chapter 14 - Two truths, one lie
Thomas and I were in the car, stuck in traffic for half an hour now. Apparently there was an accident and no cars were able to pass anymore. I let out a sigh and looked out of the window.
"Got to love traffic," Thomas sighed as well. He turned his head to me and studied my face.
"What are you doing?" I laughed feeling a little shy.
"I was just thinking that-" He stopped talking and turned his head back to the traffic in front of us.
"You were thinking what?" I asked curiously.
He smirked while looking in the side mirrors of the car, then looking back at me. "You wouldn't want to hear that."
"Why not?" I asked offended and a little scared. If he was the person messing with me, was he then maybe thinking of all the cruel things he could do to me next?
"Fine, but I've warned you." He looked me straight in the eyes when he said, "Even when you're upset you're the most beautiful girl I've ever met." My cheeks started to feel really hot and I turned my head away from him. No, it wasn't possible that Thomas was the culprit. He was in love with me. Why would he ever want to cause me pain?
"I told you," he smirked while switching to first gear again. We were driving so slow. We would be stuck here together for a long while.
"Can I put on some music?" I asked him to change the subject.
"Sure, there are some albums in the car somewhere," he said casually.
I searched in the door on my side and found about five albums.
"Nirvana or the Foo Fighters?" I asked him, holding up the two albums.
"Foo Fighters," he answered. I nodded approvingly of his choice and put the cd in the player. Thomas started humming to the song as soon as the music started to play which made me smile. He looked so cute. I shook my head. Why do I keep thinking about him this way? But what stopped me to not do so? Alfie and I broke up. I could think whatever I wanted to. It didn't matter anymore if I saw him as more than a friend.
"Stop looking at me like that," he suddenly said.
"Like what?" I asked him cheekily.
"Like you want to kiss me," he said chuckling. He was just kidding right?
"What if I really wanted to kiss you?" I played along. "You kind of ruined the moment now." I did my best to make it sound as a joke.
"Damn it," he laughed. Good, he understood it as a joke.
Traffic was still going really slow and I started to get really bored.
"Let's play a game," I told him trying to sound cheerfully, although my mind was still with Pippin and Percy. A game would distract me.
"What game?" he asked eagerly.
"Two truths one lie?" I suggested.
"Okay, you go first," he said, switching to second gear for the first time in half an hour.
"One: I have never broken anything apart from the wrist in the simulation, but that doesn't really count. Two: I never drink alcohol or coffee. Three: I'm secretly obsessed with spinach."
"You're playing safe here, I see," he commented. What was that supposed to mean? "I think the second is a lie."
"Nope," I giggled. "The third one is a lie."
"Why don't you drink alcohol or coffee?"
"Because it triggers my anxiety," I told him honestly.
"Can I say something?"
"I guess?"
"I think that's just in your head," he told me. "It might have been a coincidence that you got anxious with coffee or alcohol a few times in a row."
"I don't know," I said honestly. "But it's your turn now. Are you going to 'play safe' as well?"
"Well, no," he smirked. "One: I once had a one night stand with a Spanish girl who didn't understand a word I said. Two: I used to smoke but I quit because I almost swallowed a cigarette. Three: I have accidentally kissed a man with long hair once, thinking it was a girl."
"Hold on, there's only one lie?" I exclaimed laughing. I saw him nodding proudly and I burst out laughing. "I hope the third is a lie."
"It isn't," he whispered and I burst out laughing again. "Stop laughing! He looked just like the girl I was flirting with earlier that night."
"You're unbelievable!" I laughed. "Then I guess the cigarette one is a lie?"
"You're right," he smirked. "I've never smoked."
"Thank god," I commented and we both laughed.
We had so much fun playing the game and getting to know each other that before we realised it we had arrived at his mansion.
"You can go one more time before we go inside," he told me. "But no playing safe this time."
"Alright," I smiled cheekily while undoing my seatbelt. The whole car ride I had wanted to kiss him. I knew that it was wrong to use him in some way, but it was all just for fun, right?
"One: I once had a relationship with someone who turned out to be gay. Two: I've kissed only four guys in my life. Three," I hesitated a little. Was I really going to do this? He was looking intensely in my eyes. I felt like I was getting dragged closer to his lips.
"Three," I repeated while my breath hitched. "I want to kiss you."
He gave me a look I couldn't interpret completely. It was a mixture of happiness and sadness I thought.
"I definitely hope that last one wasn't a lie," he whispered before he pressed his lips on mine.
