Chapter 19 - Hospital again

We arrived at the hospital half an hour later, thanks to traffic. Thomas and I were both a little upset with each other but I was sure that would pass when we saw Megan again. We quickly made our way through the many corridors and staircases. At last we arrived at the 'simulation area' but it was suspiciously quiet over there. I gave Thomas a puzzled look which he returned.

"Miss Sugg and Mr. Dempsey, what a pleasure!" I heard the all too familiar voice of Dr. Evans. Thomas and I both turned to the evil man.

"Where is everyone?" I asked him.

"Oh, I've completely forgotten to inform you!" Evans exclaimed, but it seemed fake to me. "The experiment has ended. We've really learned a lot about the human mind."

"Of course," I said gritting my teeth at that last bit. But I couldn't hide how happy I was that it was really over now. "Where's Megan?"

"Your friend did so well!" Evans exclaimed happily. "We had to get her out of it, otherwise she'd still be going."

"Where is she?" I repeated my question, impatiently.

"I would have no idea," Evans laughed. "She left two days ago."

"Can you at least give us a telephone number?" I asked, annoyed.

"I'm afraid I can't." Anger was filling up my whole body again. "We can't give personal information to strangers."

"You know very well that we are no strangers to her," Thomas spoke for the first time since we had arrived.

"Formalities," Evans replied."There's really nothing I can do about it."

"I'm so glad I don't have to see you ever again," I spat. "You're a sly cockroach." Thomas snickered behind me because of my use of swears.

"Oh, I wouldn't be too sure about that," Evans smiled evilly. "Have a great day." He was starting to walk away.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I shouted at him but he ignored me. "Thomas, he can't do anything to us anymore, can he?" Panic filled my entire body already. What if we had to do more tests?

"I honestly don't know," he admitted. "I haven't seen the papers that we signed yet..." He seemed to be thinking for a second and then sprinted to catch up on Evans. I couldn't be bothered to run so I followed on a slower pace. I could hear some bits of their conversation.

"That's illegal!" I could hear Thomas shout. I turned into another corridor and I could see them talking. Thomas had his arms crossed and so had Evans.

"Fine!" Evans yelled back. "I'll get those damn papers." He then strode of in the other direction. I reached Thomas and shot him a questioning look.

"In a few minutes we'll know if he can do anything else to us," Thomas shrugged. I nervously bit my lip. I really didn't want anything else to happen to me or the other people I had met there. "Don't worry," he said as if he could read my mind. I smiled at him weakly.

A few moments later Evans came back and shoved the papers in our hands. He didn't even take the time to say goodbye, he just left. I raised an eyebrow at how rude he was all of a sudden.

Thomas flicked eagerly through the pages and so did I. All the pages had my signature on it but I couldn't remember doing it. It scared me a lot that I had signed these without me knowing. I shivered and read some of the paragraphs.

The things I had 'agreed on' were just ridiculous. I had allowed them to do all kinds of tests on me. They could inject me with every fluid they liked, they could simulate things in my head and record all of it. I would have never signed all of this knowingly.

I glanced at Thomas who was reading every sentence now. There was only one emotion written on his face: disgust.

"How did they do it?" I whispered so even Thomas couldn't hear.

Suddenly Thomas yelled out. "They can't be serious!"

"What is it?" I asked feeling scared.

"At the end of the papers," he said, he was pointing at the sentence on his documents. I quickly turned to the same page.

"I, Zoe Sugg, agree to participate in other scientific experiments when necessary," I read out loud. "What does this mean?"

"It means that if they can't find enough volunteers... They're going to be asking us," Thomas sighed.

"No!" I yelled out. They couldn't do this. If they ever worked on other tests and experiments we would have to do it. We didn't have a choice. "Do the others have to do the same?"

"I suppose so," Thomas replied with a sad expression on his face. So that meant that Poppy, Megan, Jim.... Alfie... Alfie... We all had to do whatever they said. I started feeling sick to my stomach. I couldn't cope with any more horrible experiences.

My chest tightened up and I froze to the ground. That's what Evans meant. He was planning other things for us. No! I didn't want it! I couldn't breathe anymore. The hall started to spin and my vision was getting blurry. I was having a panic attack.

"Zoe? Are you okay?" I could hear Thomas ask but his voice seemed so distant. I wanted to tell him that I couldn't breathe but my body wasn't listening to me anymore. I wanted to scream out loud but no voice came out when I opened my mouth. I was trapped in my own body. Fear was consuming my whole body and there was nothing I could do but wait until that scary feeling passed by.
