The sun bathed the estate in gold, the perfect morning for a wedding. Laughter, chatter, and the scent of fresh flowers filled the air. Mia flitted between the bridesmaids, adjusting veils, smoothing out dresses, and snapping pictures during the photoshoot. Everything should have felt joyous… normal.

Then Daniel and Christian arrived, their presence immediately shifting the atmosphere. Mia waved, but Christian’s sharp gaze swept over her before he asked casually, yet with an edge:

“Is your cousin still here?”

Daniel’s body stiffened beside him. “She’s… gone,” he said tightly, eyes never leaving Christian.

Mia led them toward the family gathering, trying to ignore the knot forming in her stomach. Once inside, she hurried to Rebecca’s room.

“Have you met her yet?” Mia asked.

Rebecca shook her head. “Who?”

“Reese. Was she here?”

Rebecca’s eyes widened. “She just left. But… you should head downstairs—people are arriving.”

Mia nodded, moving quietly down the hallway. She ran into her uncle, Reese’s father. “Uncle!” she greeted.

He smiled, but his eyes were tense. “Good to see you, Mia.”

They exchanged small talk, and then Mia asked softly, “Where’s Reese?”

“With her mother,” he replied, voice tight.

Mia glanced toward Reese’s mother. Her expression was tense, her hands fidgeting. But Reese herself was nowhere in sight. Something felt wrong.

Curiosity—and a rising sense of dread—drove Mia toward the back room. She froze as muffled voices became clearer. Peeking through the doorway, she saw Reese and Christian locked in a violent struggle.

“Christian… wait!” Mia’s voice trembled.

Before he could respond, Reese lunged, plunging a knife into Christian’s chest. His eyes widened in shock, and he stumbled backward, bound and struggling.

“I have to go!” Reese shouted, bolting past Mia.

Daniel charged into the room seconds later, face pale and panicked. “Larry!” he yelled. His guards appeared immediately, securing Christian and rushing him to the hospital.

Mia stood frozen, heart pounding, trying to process the chaos. The joy of the wedding morning had vanished in an instant.

“What… what just happened?” she whispered, voice trembling.

Daniel’s hand found her shoulder, gripping tightly. “She’s gone… for now. But we’ll find her.”

Mia’s chest tightened, fear and confusion flooding her mind. Outside the room, the faint sound of Reese’s footsteps echoed down the hallway. The estate felt suddenly enormous, empty, and dangerous.

Mia’s phone buzzed in her pocket. She glanced down—no message. But then, from the shadows at the end of the corridor, a figure watched her… still unseen, still waiting.

Her breath caught. Somewhere deep inside, she knew the calm of the wedding day was over.

And in that moment, as Daniel tightened his grip on her shoulder, Mia realized one terrifying truth: the storm wasn’t over. It had only just begun.
