CHAPTER ELEVEN - HIS TREASURE
The pogues were spread across the porch of the chateau the next morning. Eleanor had a butterfly strip on her forehead from the fight with kelce last night as well as a bruised and cut up lip while leaning back against John B. The rest of them lounging about still hungover from last night and the events of the party.
And then Sarah Cameron walked through the screen door.
"Well, hello princess" JJ smiled.
"Shouldn't you be on Figure Eight with your little group of polo players?" John B asked "Or did you break up with Topper?"
"Wouldn't be the first time" Eleanor mumbled.
"We're just friends" Sarah smiled sarcastically as Brian scoffed.
"Be sure to tell him that" Brian spoke as Sarah stared at him for a bit longer than she meant to "What are you doing here anyway?"
Sarah sighed "I'm here for Pope" Causing Pope to look up at her in confusion "I think I found the island room"
That got the pogue's attention as they all piled into the twinkie, Eleanor and Brian in her charger. They were on speaker in the twinkie so they were still in on the conversation.
"Guys, listen to this" Pope said "The diary says that the cross holds the most holy relic in all of Christendom, the Garment of the Saviour"
"So wait, he's saying there's a holy garment inside the cross?" Kie asked.
"Yeah, it says the garment is capable of healing the sick from any malady" Pope went on to explain.
"Mm, yeah" JJ nodded "'If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well'"
Everyone turned to look at JJ in shock and even Brian and Eleanor made a noise over the phone.
"What?" JJ looked at them "I went to Sunday school"
"Since when, Blondie" Eleanor said causing the two to start bickering before Pope butted in.
"Well" He said loudly "That makes sense as to why Limbrey wants the cross so bad. She thinks it can heal her"
"What else does it say?" Kie asked.
"Many feel that we have sinned to steal such a sacred thing, and God will strike his vengeance on us"
"Thing is, God did have His vengeance" Kie added.
Pope nodded "He sent a hurricane to sink the ship. Only Denmark survived"
They pulled into the driveway of tannyhill as Eleanor and Brian got out of their cars and walked in with the pogues beside him, John B with his hand now entwined with El's and Sarah taking the lead.
