The next time DJ woke up, he was alone in the bed as well as in the room. Tucked neatly under the sheets and cuddled cosily with the flamingo bird, the detective was left to rest after the panic episode he had suffered in the wild chase with Chevy. Nyxara and Leo were gone, seemingly from the mansion, and Yael was not in sight leaving the room a quiet place with dim lights and favourable temperature, but that didn't warrant any peace for the detective because of those swirling thoughts that started to set in his system.
Blinking the bleariness away, DJ stared at the ceiling, collecting the major points of his fruitful information gathering earlier while at the same time avoiding the aftermath of the whole deal. What DJ got from Tom was a good start in the case, Chevy's background, his suspicious yet sneaky movements towards and inside Pyro were details crucial for Yael. The gangster was up to something big—given his contacts and the support he was granted from within the corrupt governance that falls under a victimised lord of Pyro— and he was selfishly following the lead without caring for the consequences that might fall on him when things change turn.
But by that time.... perhaps..... luck wouldn't be on Chevy's side.
Immersed in his thoughts, DJ sighed and shifted under the covers before he climbed down from the bed slowly. The soreness in muscles had already loosened enough for easy movement and the body felt in control once again as he made his way to the bathroom to freshen up. However, only a look in the mirror pulled DJ back into the memories of the distressed encounter of life and death he, oh so desperately tried to avoid. Swollen eyes, bitten lips and blistered fingers told the story of the brutal ministrations his mind had inflicted on himself when he was under stress and couldn't think straight.
Shaking his head, DJ forced his focus back on the previous train of thought while he stepped inside the shower cabin for a rinse. A warm bath and some more thinking helped DJ devise a series of information he wanted to discuss with Yael about Chevy, he practised a few breathing exercises under the shower to gain a grip over his disturbed mind while also trying to get rid of the remaining anxiety that might spring up without warning.
Once the sweat and grime of panic washed off his body and the boy was drowned in a single shirt as per his comfort, DJ made his way out of the room and tiptoed downstairs silently in search of food and well... of course, lord Yael...if he was present in the mansion.
And indeed, Yael was very much present in the mansion.
The lord was on the back deck of the house, leisurely walking around the place while he talked on the phone loudly. Where his firm voice filled the silence of the otherwise quiet floor, the man's demeanour portrayed his annoyance over some matter he was upset about.
DJ realised Yael's presence on the last step of the stairs, he stopped in his tracks and scanned the area until his eyes landed on the open doors leading towards the back side. The detective then contemplated his options, growling stomach and parched throat, before he sauntered in the direction where he was sure to meet Yael.... but just not the way he wanted.
Because the lord seemed pretty angry.
Meanwhile, Yael scolded the person he was busy talking to like he was talking to an amateur. He groaned in annoyance and opened his mouth to lash out, wanting to split the brain of the said person and get his point through, but then his dark eyes landed on a sneaky boy, trying to peek through the glass doors yet exposing his act obliviously, and he halted right away.
A frown made its way to Yael's forehead, he cut the call without another word and marched to the door in two long strides.
On the other hand, DJ sensed the silence as well and staggered back in a hurry. But in his haste, the detective stumbled on his feet and tumbled to the ground, helpless and on his butt, as he rolled to his side with a grunt. The weird squeak DJ produced before falling was the only sound he could digest of the moment, if ever the memory of his shameful fall reoccurred in his mind, but once a pair of two large boots rush-stomped by his side and a swish of smoky breath fanned over his reddening face.....DJ suddenly felt criminal of his existence.
