Chapter 2: The Big Announcement

I was sitting in my room, with Jae Hwa. I’d called her over to tell her about the engagement. I was trying to find the right words, and she was laughing at my nervous face. Jae Hwa was three years younger than me, she was eighteen, in her graduating year; which meant I was twenty-one. I was heading to college in the fall.

“Yoona! Why don’t you say it already? I know it’s not bad, you sounded very happy. You also said to help you tell your parents, so it’s got to be good.” she said, frustrated. I sighed, knowing she was telling the truth. I never told my parents bad things, they expected so much of me, and they hated when I told them bad things.

I gave in, and finally mumbled, “Alright. I’ll tell you now. Seung Hyun proposed to me the other day, and I said yes. That’s okay, right?” I felt nervous because I wanted her to think it was the best choice. Of course, I thought it was. Even if I did feel rushed.

“What?! That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you!” she exclaimed excitedly. I jumped from her sudden amount of energy. I can’t believe I expected her to disapprove. The hard part was telling my parents though, because I really didn’t know what they would think. They liked Seung Hyun because he was rich, but I didn’t know if they’d like the idea of marriage. Jae Hwa pulled me up off my bed, and we made our way downstairs. My parents were in the study, so I headed for the door, and knocked.

“Yoona? We’re working, go away,” my father’s voice came through the closed door, sounding really annoyed. I knocked again.

Frustrated, I yelled, “I have a big announcement! You have to hear it.” The door opened, and my parents were both standing there. They already didn’t look happy.

“This better not be bad. We hate bad news,” my mother stated, frustrated.

Jae Hwa came to my rescue, and said, “It’s not bad news! In fact, I think it’s wonderful news.” I sighed. I’d hoped she would tell them for me, but I knew she wouldn’t. I nodded my head and decided to just get it all over with.

“I’m getting married, to Seung Hyun,” I mumbled, lowering my head. I was really prepared for a huge fight, but that’s not what happened.

My father spoke up, saying, “So? You’re 21! You’re old enough. You don’t need our blessings. However, it is good that he is rich.” That’s all my parents cared about. Money. Not me, or my happiness. They just wanted wealth, and if they couldn’t get it, they’d marry me to someone rich and ask for it. I’m just glad they didn’t make me marry.

I was relieved that my parents accepted my choice, and that Jae Hwa was also happy for me. I was really bored though, so we decided to go over to Seung Hyun’s place. I took out my key, and unlocked the door. He must have been out. We let ourselves in, and were playing video games when the door opened and footsteps were heard in the hall.

“Who’s there? Yoona? Is it you?” Seung Hyun’s sexy voice flowed in from the hall. I felt it hard to keep my hands off of him. We had this promise, to be abstinent until marriage. Every day it killed me, and he liked to tease me about it. I jumped up and ran down the hall, right into his warm arms. The feeling in my chest was still there, the fast racing of my heart. I could feel it pumping through my veins.

“I love you,” I whispered, so only he could hear. At first, he looked at me like something was wrong, until he saw the smile on my face. Jae Hwa walked in, smirking.

“Get a room,” she joked, and then realized this whole house was our room. “Oh, never mind.” I laughed at her, and Seung Hyun laughed as well, she just looked embarrassed. She then continued to say something about having to eat dinner with her parents, and left us alone. I looked up into my fiancés eyes, and gave him my sexiest look.

I whispered into his ear, “Do we have to keep that promise?” Seung Hyun picked me up off my feet, took me into his room, and gently rested me on his bed. My heartbeat was racing faster than a racing horse. I was finally going to get what I wanted. He leaned over me and... Tickled me?!

“That’s not fair! I had a mini heart attack there! You tease,” I shouted at him, sad that I didn’t get what I’d hoped for.

“Sorry, love. A promise is a promise! But the look on your face was so priceless!” he said, doubling over in laughter. I groaned, and kicked him in the shin. Then I reached up to his neck, and I kissed him. Passionately. He kissed me back, but he stuck to his word.
