Chapter 20: Three Years

“Choi Mi Sun! Aren’t you ready yet? I want to go...” Seung Hyun asked his daughter, sighing. Three years. That’s how long it had been. She was so much bigger, she was a beautiful little girl.

“Yes, daddy! I’m coming, we’ll go see mama now, right?” Mi Sun asked him, taking his hand. He picked her up.

Answering he whispered, “Yeah, we’ll go see mama.”

It didn’t feel right to walk into the graveyard. It didn’t feel right to kneel over a grave that held someone he loved so much. He stared at the stone. He stared at the name, feeling the characters with his finger.

“Hi, mommy! How are you today? I miss you,” Mi Sun quietly said, speaking to the stone. She placed a bouquet of flowers on the grass by the stone. Seung Hyun held Mi Sun’s hand, and sighed.

“Daddy, you have to talk to her this time too, you know!” Mi Sun told him. He sighed again, searching his mind for the right words.

“Yoona...” Seung Hyun started to speak, but his voice broke.

Trying again, he said, “My heart is raining, every day. Only your presence can save me. I love you, I always will. I miss you. Sometimes I think if Mi Sun wasn’t around, that I would never be able to survive. So Young is angry at me because she tried to get with me. I know it was her brother. You should have called, I would have came. You would still be alive...” he finished, slowly. He couldn’t hold back the tears anymore, and he cried. Mi Sun hugged Seung Hyun.

“Don’t cry, daddy. She’s with us in our dreams,” she whispered. A woman walked up, slowly.

“You don’t know me, my name is Seo Jin Ah. I was a friend of Yoona in ninth grade. I’m sorry that she had to leave the world so soon... She’ll be in my prayers,” the woman said quietly, bowing. She kneeled down, saying a prayer.

Give or take, something always takes away from our happiness. It never matters how much we protect it, it will happen. Let the rain kiss your heart, embrace the rain.
