Chapter 12: Kim Jin Kyong

Kim Jin Kyong was an old friend of Yoona when they were in high school. They didn’t talk anymore, the reasons why were complicated. Jin Kyong’s parents disliked Yoona and her family, and they didn’t want her to be a bad influence on Jin Kyong.

“You’re going to that college, Jin Kyong, I don’t care what you want, you have to be the best!” her father yelled at her. Jin Kyong sighed, and left the house to go for a walk.

‘Why don’t they care about what I want?’ she asked herself, staring at the ground as she walked. She bumped into someone, and quickly bowed.

“I’m so sorry! I wasn’t watching where I was going,” she explained to the couple in front of her. She thought she recognized the female, but she didn’t know the male.

“You should be sorry-” the man started.

“Oppa! Don’t be rude, I know her! Jin Kyong? It’s Yoona. It’s... nice to see you again, after so many years,” I said, smiling.

Jin Kyong exclaimed, “Yoona? It’s really you? It’s felt like forever! Is he your boyfriend?” I shook my head, smiling.

“He’s not my boyfriend, he’s my husband,” I told her, suddenly nervous. What would she think?

Was I really a bad influence on her life? Jin Kyong smiled.

She said, “I’m happy for you. I wish my family would allow me to choose for myself, I’m heading to a college I don’t want to go to because of their expectations.” She sighed, looking sad. “But I’m tired of fighting them, so I’ll just go with what they want.”

I felt sorry for Jin Kyong, even though in school I’d been so angry that she just left me standing alone because of them. She left when I’d needed her most, and I thought I’d never forgive her.

“Jin Kyong, you know I’ve forgiven you, right?” I asked her suddenly.

Replying, she said, “For leaving you? You shouldn’t forgive me, I left you alone when you needed me. I never even said I was sorry, I regret that.”

I didn’t care what she said, I forgave her, even if we’d never meet again. She had been like a sister before she left, and now I was fine, even if I wasn’t when she deserted me. I had Jae Hwa and so many others now, it was okay for me to stop hating her. We’d both grown.
