Chapter 19: A Forgotten Lifetime
If death meant just leaving the stage long enough to change costume and come back as a new character; would you slow down, or speed up?
Stepping out into the coldness of the rain, I shivered. Yeah, I had a coat, but no umbrella. A coat was absolutely useless if it was soaking wet. I looked at the coffee shop, wishing I could go back in to stay warm. Instead, I continued walking towards home, thinking about the nice warm bed I would be climbing into once I got there. I thought of warm things so I wouldn’t be so cold. Slowly, I made my way down the street, with my head looking to the ground. Out of what seemed to be nowhere, someone grabbed me by the shoulders. Pain shot through me, and my instinct was to scream as loud as I could, but I couldn’t even do that. The hand over my mouth muffled the sound so much, no one could hear it. No one could even see me as I was being pulled through the alley, into complete darkness. The man who grabbed me dragged me into a building, and threw me onto the ground. I felt more pain.
“W-why did you drag me here?” I stammered, afraid of the man hovering over me. He smirked, calling someones name. Baek Jung Su. Who was that? I tried to stand up, but the man threw me back down.
The man then yelled, “Your lady is here, come take care of her before we do, boss!”
“Don’t! She’s mine!” Another voice came booming from the hall, and I was getting more frightened by the second. What did they mean? Take care of me? Silently, I tried to crawl away, but the man kicked me in the side. Another man came in, followed by about another dozen.
‘Well, that’s scary,’ I thought to myself, trying to stay away from them.
“Hey there, beautiful. Do you know who I am?” the man now standing in front of me asked.
Stuttering, I answered, “N-no... Who are you?”
Laughing, he said, “I’m the most notorious killer in Seoul and you’ve never even heard my name? I’m guessing you don’t get out much.” He had a mocking tone, but that’s not what scared me. Killer?! What was I doing with a killer? I needed to get out of there.
“That’s... nice, look, I’d love to stay and chat, but I’ve got to run,” I mumbled, getting up. I started to run, but he grabbed my arm. He looked pissed off.
“Don’t be like that, I hate it when girls do that!” he yelled at me, I think I was going to die of a heart attack. His hand struck my face, and it stung. I whimpered.
Chuckling, the man muttered, “If you relax, it won’t take very long to be done with you. So Young would appreciate it if you stayed, she wishes she was here.” So Young?! Ji Yong’s girlfriend? I’d always known there was something bad about her, I knew she’d get her revenge. I just didn’t really think it would be this way. She really was a cold-hearted bitch.
With a gleam in his eyes, the man pulled out something silver, it was shining. A knife.
“And if you beg for your life, maybe I’ll make the process a tiny bit quicker...” he said, trailing off. He half-smiled.
“Please don’t... Please... I have a family!” I screamed at him, tears rolling down my cheeks. The man laughed.
“That makes it all so much better, though. Don’t you see? I love to see others in pain! I will love the day I see your husbands face when he finds your body...” he said, laughing again. This man was pure evil.
Going on, he said, “You see, I plan to take you home after I kill you, placing you in your bed like everything is normal! It will be glorious.” I cringed at the thought, and felt an ache in my heart as I realized I couldn’t get away from this man. Baek Jung Su, Baek So Young, you are two evil, heartless people.
With a snap of his fingers, all the men in the room suddenly pinned me down. I couldn’t even move an inch, let alone escape. I closed my eyes. If this was going to really happen, I didn’t want to watch the man kill me. I felt the cold blade against my face. I thought he was going to cut me with it, but he didn’t.
“It’s really cold, right?” he whispered to me, quietly laughing. I kept my eyes closed. Suddenly, the knife penetrated my stomach. I took in a sharp breath as I felt a warm liquid leaking out from the wound. It wasn’t water, I knew that. I screamed out in pain. A few people laughed. The man stabbed me in the same area six more times. It hurt so bad. I felt dizzy, I felt sick. I was in between conscious and passing out. Did he plan that? He stopped, listening to my short, shallow breathing.
“This one is for So Young!” he screamed, plunging the knife straight into my heart. Baek Jung Su smiled as he heard Yoona’s last breath. Satisfied, he called Jung over.
He simply said, “Help me carry her, we need to make sure Seung Hyun finds a little surprise in his bed.”
They made their way into the house, only making sure that no one was home first. They were lucky. They changed Yoona into pyjama’s, after clearing away the blood from her body. They placed her onto her side, under the blankets, facing away from the door. Smirking, the two left the house.
“Yoona, are you here? I’m home, love!” Seung Hyun shouted, walking into the house. Looking into the bedroom, he immediately wished he wasn’t shouting. Did he wake her up? He checked, and was glad to see she was still soundly asleep. He went to go shower, changing into his pyjama’s afterwards.
He climbed into bed, taking Yoona’s hand in his.
‘Why can’t I sleep?’ he thought to himself after about an hour. He felt like something was wrong. He got up, looking for Yoona’s phone. He found her jacket on the floor, where her phone should be. Picking it up, he gasped.
“What the heck?!” he shouted out in surprise. How did Yoona not wake up from his shouts? He grabbed his phone, dialing Jae Hwa’s number.
“Jae Hwa!” he shouted into the reciever. “Come over here, something is wrong!”
Jae Hwa ran all the way over to the house, bursting through the door. She tried to catch her breath, but that was hard when she’d been hyperventilating anyways.
“Where is she?! What happened?” Jae Hwa screamed at him. He pointed towards the bedroom, and Jae Hwa ran in. She shook Yoona really hard.
“Wake up, Yoona! Wake up! Come on! Wake up!” Jae Hwa screamed, shaking Yoona harder. She started to sob uncontrollably, her shoulders sagging. Where was that Seung Hyun? He acted like he didn’t even care, but maybe he just didn’t want to cry around Jae Hwa.
Sobbing harder, Jae Hwa choked out, “Yoona, why was it you? Why?!”
Neither Jae Hwa or Seung Hyun slept that night, but Jae Hwa stayed. She told Seung Hyun it wasn’t okay to hold back his feelings, that she wouldn’t tell if he cried in front of her. He cried. Seung Hyun, the one who barely ever shed tears, cried. A strike of lightning sounded in the sky, and the real storm was coming to haunt Yoona’s loved ones. A storm that would never end.
