We had barely made our way in before two ice wraiths came out from hiding. We readied ourselves, but they didn't attack. They seemed like guards.
Matthew revealed himself, and Chris fired an arrow like a reflex. To our surprise, Matthew caught the arrow, super cooled it until it shattered into powder. I tried to take a step forward but my feet were frozen to the ground. So were Kenzie and Chris'.

"You really thought you did something, coming into my den to hunt me like an animal. That's low, even for you." Matthew said.
"Why are you doing this?" Kenzie called out first.
"Why, I'm finishing what my mother, The Snow Queen started."
"Who?" I asked.
"The others fought against her here a long time ago." Mackenzie said.
The air felt like it was getting colder and thinner. Harder to breathe, despite us being dressed for the weather.
"I'll take this opportunity to explain myself. You wonder how I'm your cousin, yes? Well your grandfather Edwin's sister was my grandmother Sonja. That makes us second cousins." Matthew explained.

"Now, using my magic mirror, I've managed to take the magic of everyone here in Storybrooke. Except the two of you." He said.
"Two?" I asked.
"It's dormant. But you carry light magic. And it's certainly diluted by that blade of dark magic you carry." He came closer to me. I tried to raise my sword but a pillar of ice came up and suspended my right arm towards the ground. Matthew danced his fingers on my red cheek. They were cold to the touch.
"Leave him alone!" Kenzie shouted. "Just take my magic, you don't need him, just take me."
Matthew glared at her. "You'll get yours." He said. He took a few steps back and placed his hand in front of my face. He started chanting like before and suddenly I couldn't see. There was just a bright light. I wasn't out long but I had fallen to the ground. My skin became incredibly pale, and I shivered.
I saw Matthew step in front of Kenzie. Her lip trembled and small tears on her cheeks froze.
"My parents will come to rescue us." She said determinedly.
"Will they?" Matthew said softly. "You can hold me and even shake me, but I'm easy to break. I have lots of snow, but it's all fake! What am I?" He told a riddle. I knew the answer.
"A s-s-s-snow globe." I shuddered.
"When you arrive at home, take your last moments warm by the fireplace, and your parents will be closer than you realize." Matthew said.
Kenzie was confused, but changed the subject. "Wait." She said. "You'll haven't told us the last thing you need to enact your curse."
Matthew gave a light smile. "The heart of two sisters."
Mackenzie's expression stupefied as Matthew raised his hand to her as well. In a moment of panic, Kenzie raised her right hand and managed to teleport us out of there. She was certainly fraught but I was barely conscious. Her and Chris lifted me to my feet, arm over each of their shoulders, trying to get out of the woods as quickly as possible.
"Quick thinking." Chris told Kenz.
She didn't answer. She was on a mission.
I had figured it out. Matthew had trapped my parents and hers.
"Our— our parents." I said as loud as I could but my vocal cords were barely warm enough to speak. They stopped for a moment to hear me. "They're trapped... in... in snow globes." Kenzie was shocked. She looked at Chris. "Like in the movie Coraline?" She said which seemed like a joke, but she was dead serious. "Never seen it." I whispered. I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. I must've passed out.

I woke up in my bed, covered in warm blankets. I was groggy but managed to stand. I was wearing blue pyjama bottoms and a white t-shirt. I walked downstairs to the sounds of voices. On top of the fireplace there was a snow globe. I didn't recognize it but it looked pretty ordinary. I felt I had to keep it safe nonetheless. I got to the kitchen and saw something that restored my faith.
Kenzie and Chris had gathered all our friends to fight. Ethan, Ashley, Summer and Isabella.

"You're here?... You're here." I said weakly but with a sense of determination. Mackenzie came and took my hands and gave me a short 'n sweet kiss. "We're gonna stop him and get everyone back." She said, staring into my eyes. I smiled.

"You taste like gingerbread." I told her.
