Three days. Three freakin' days! Gone all day, back past midnight then gone again by morning. You've given up on the idea of giving him space and letting him come to you. In fact, you've decided you're not in the wrong at all! You've been thinking... There's something shifty going on with that seraphim and there's no way kind-heartedness alone is what's keeping you here. You know Hell is where you belong. You don't regret your decision to stay here, but you've made a new decision: get the best of both worlds. Hell's power and Heaven's luxury, yours. But first, Adam.
You try, but you're unable to pick the lock on his bedroom door, which is bullshit because you're the best lock-picker to grace the afterlife, so you assume it's reinforced with some bullshit magic. You kick it down instead. Luckily for you, the hinges weren't enchanted and the workouts you've preoccupied yourself with lately have really paid off. You land on your foot with a thump and a huff, door swung open by the wrong side, grinning at the possibility of confrontation. Anything. Anything would be better than this soul crushing silence.
You're too early, sadly. No one's here to shout at, talk to, hug, sob into, scowl at or ignore. Just the smell of him hanging in the air. The place is trashed, and for once you didn't do it. Clothes everywhere, bed unmade yet barely slept in, empty cans and candy wrappers strewn about that are making your mouth water due to the fact you've been snack-less for a week, etcetera, all that good stuff. You tidy the place up, noting what places your damned controller doohickey might be hidden and wondering what this brainless man would do without you, familiar with where everything goes as if it were all your own.
Images flash through your mind's eye as you move through the room. You remember the relief in his voice when you remembered him and your intrinsic draw to him even when you didn't. You nearly make yourself sick with your own sentimentality, but go on. Despite being sure you'll be swiftly and unceremoniously thrown out once discovered, you climb into his bed. You roll the blanket on top of you, but it's not anywhere near heavy and warm enough. Your heart aches.
You don't remember dozing off and you can't recall a time where you were able to fall asleep without trying to first, but it was welcome surprise. And the surprises keep on coming. You're right where you were, and what's more, he's here too. He looks kind when he's asleep, like he spends his weekends happily offering directions to lost travellers and baking cakes for fundraisers. He has freckles on the wide, bumped bridge of his nose that you can just barely see even from this distance. Were those always there? Has he been avoiding you for that long? And why's he here now? Did he just drunkenly head to bed without noticing you?
You don't question it. Instead, you unfurl his fingers with your cheekbone and rest your head on the top of his palm. You smile slightly when you feel his thumb tracing down your smile line, but shut your eyes and say nothing. You part your lips when he touches them and smile wider when you hear his groggy, mocking laugh.
"Easy." He calls you, but no offence is taken. That confuses him, if he's honest. Aren't you mad? Or apologetic? Or... anything other than relaxed? He pushes your canine up with the tip of his thumb, tipping your face back and opening your jaw, and you just allow him to. It'd be hot if it weren't so unlike you, and "unlike you" is still a sore spot for him after what happened, so...
"Uh... D?"
You gently push your tooth into his thumb, then return to your eased state, just to show you heard him. You'd rather not talk yet. You'd like to ignore the elephant in the room for as long as possible, so you keep hiding behind your eyelids and focusing instead on the texture of his skin. He clicks his tongue at you, not satisfied by your non-answer, and yanks his hand out from under your face. He pulls you forward by the back of your neck and rams his lips into yours, painfully to provoke a reaction, too brutish and unromantic to be considered any sort of kiss.
