Everything I Didn't Say

"With all of the mistakes I made."

Michael dragged me to Ashton's house after school for band practice. He told me I needed to come because everyone else was there and he didn't want me being alone. He literally uses either that or the opinion excuse. He should really make up some new excuses.

Whatever the excuse was I'd still go with him anyway, probably because he was my best friend and I loved spending time with him. Also, because I had to go to meet Luke after band practice. Calum's mum had dropped the raven-haired boy off at Ashton's door; I'd parked my motorbike in the driveway — noticing the absence of Luke's dark car.

We stood on the small step outside Ashton's side door to the garage. "Why did you say it was you?" Michael asked Calum. As Calum had said that he'd explain later about why he had said why he made the hickey on my neck, where in actual truth Michael had.

"I didn't want Michael's — pretty crap — gay cover being blown. Calum laughed a little nervously, "I don't know what's going on between you guys. It's not my place to ask either, but there's definitely something between you. I just don't want anyone to get in the way of it."

Michael looked at me as if he were waiting for me to deny what Calum had just said. I didn't, I wouldn't. Making out with Michael in the supermarket last night should've felt wrong. He was my best friend, for God's sake. It didn't, though. Kissing him was something of a different experience, I hadn't felt so comfortable in a situation like that. Not with Aaron, anyway.

Michael just shrugged at the silence, he was the one to open the door to the garage. Inside, all three of us were confronted by a load of noise. The instigator was clear to be seen — Ashton was in the corner of the garage, banging harshly on his drums.

His beat was way off as he was just banging randomly, his eyes were scrunched shut. Sweat dripped from his forehead to a great extent. Both his red bandana and his grey t-shirt were soaked as a result of this.

Never had I seen my brother like this; he had a lot of pain as he exerted all his energy into pounding down on the drums. Michael pulled the garage door up, letting in the light to grab Ashton's attention; the rumbling sound of the garage doors made Ashton open his eyes.

My brother dropped his drumsticks, and the loud noise stopped immediately. "Oh, sorry, I forgot about practice." He apologized, pulling his bandana off his head and running a hand through his damp curls.

"What was that?" I asked my brother as he pulled on a dry shirt.

He blinked at me with his hazel eyes slightly widened. "Just letting off some steam." He scratched the back of his head awkwardly before shuffling to pick up some stray items from the ground.

"Well, this isn't awkward," Luke spoke from the open garage door. I smiled at him as he walked in. I tried to put the bet to the back of my mind and forget whatever intentions he had with winding Michael up. He was taking me to see his little sister after practice — so I was pretty excited. "I brought lattes." Luke placed five takeaway mugs on the coffee table near the couch.

Michael scoffed at this gesture for some reason. "I got a mocha for you, Mike," Luke replied to this, knowing Michael didn't like lattes.

I didn't think much of this; just the thought that they were starting to get along came to me. I could be to make up for this morning as well. Luke was pretty good to Michael, from what I saw. Besides the whole bet situation, they almost seemed like friends. They seemed to know a lot about each other in the short time, too, so I wasn't sure if they were hanging out on their own after school sometimes; it wasn't my place to ask.
