The next morning Amethyst was up and in her uniform before Luna could even scream her name. She had hurried Iris out the door and into the sedan like an angry chicken, pushing and rambling on about being late."Have a good day, ugly!" Iris yelled out the window as she drove off.
"How kind," the deep voice of Luke spoke from behind her.
"Isn't she?" Amethyst said with a smirk. Luke was grinning wide at her, "What is it?"
"Tonight's very important to me, you'll be there won't you?" He asked as they walked to their first class.
"Is it your birthday?" She asked confused. Luke took a deep breath in, she wondered if he could smell Ryder all over her.
"That's in October," he answered in a way that made it seem like everyone knows that. "Tonight is the lacrosse match against our rival school."
"Oh right!" Amethyst didn't really like sports, she was too uncoordinated for them. "I guess I'll be there, is it mandatory?"
Amelia caught up with them on the staircase. "Is what mandatory?"
"Going to the game," She replied to the redhead.
"Well.... Yes, it's called school pride," Amelia scowled.
She rolled her eyes, it was a very Amelia-like answer. "Fine, I'll be there."
The very unconventional trio made their way to class. Amethyst wondered all the while if Luke had smelled Ryder on her, or if he had just gotten a whiff of something else.
As her professor dragged on about history, her mind was focused on everything but the civil war. She stealthily took out her phone and texted Ryder four simple words; need to talk later.
Within minutes the phone buzzed with his reply and as her eyes read the words she was surprised to find out he would be at the school for Luke's game.
"Crap," she breathed. She hadn't planned on seeing him, she wasn't really ready for that kind of contact. After the other night she wasn't really sure about anything.
"Phone Ms. Hallewell," her professor barked, startling her. She handed the phone to the angry silver haired woman who was glaring at her."Amz," Amelia called from across the hall as she exited the class room; she had to stay ten extra minutes to retrieve her phone. "Come on the game is going to start."
"Ya'know I was thinking about skipping that.."
"Nonsense," she replied pulling her along.
"Yeah, but Ryder will be there," she sighed.
"You have the Galtero brothers falling at your feet and you refuse to take advantage of that, " Amelia lectured. "I and half of the school would cut off a breast to be in your shoes right now!"
She laughed at her friend; knowing she was right. Luke and Ryder were like celebrities and she was the only person who didn't seem to drop to their feet.
"Please tell me why you don't want to see that amazing human being they call Ryder Galtero!" Pleadedthe red head as they made their way to the field.
"I kissed him," she blurted out, instantly turning away from Amelia's shocked face.
"Holy crap," she exclaimed. "Bloody hell, why didn't you tell me? This is amazing.... Was it amazing?" She clapped her hand together, "of course it was!"
Amethyst couldn't help but giggle at her reaction, her only reply being; "It wasn't bad I can tell you that."
"So again," her friend asked with a pained expression. "Why wouldn't you want to see him?"
"It's not going to work," she said taking a seat on the practically empty bleachers.
"Why not?" Mia asked sliding beside her.
She wanted to tell her the truth, but she wasn't sure her friend was ready to know that she was a witch and he was a pureblood werewolf destined to become alpha and marry a pureblood bride.
"Well," she started cautiously. "I guess because he's rich and I'm American." She knew her excuse was as terrible as it sounded.
Amelia immediately gave her the stink eye, "Rubbish."
She pursued her lips, looking around for a distraction. "Oh look, Luke!" She waved at the blonde boy. "Hey!"
Her friend rolled her eyes, crossing her arms and turning to face the field; obviously upset that she wouldn't spill the beans.
Luke jogged up the steps in his royal blue lacrosse jersey. "Hello, ladies," he greeted charmingly, making Amelia coo.
"Don't you look all sporty," she said as he sat beside them.
"Yes well, I am about to play a sport," he said in a isn't-it-obvious tone.
"I wouldn't really call this a sport," said Ryder who she hadn't notice walk up. He bowed his head, "Mia... Amethyst."
Amelia cooed again.
"Oh now brother, don't be like that just because your lady friend is here," Luke replied gesturing towards Amethyst.
"I am not his lady friend," she said quickly and Ryder's playful expression dropped instantly.
"Ouch," Luke mock winced. "That's got to hurt." It seemed he was enjoying taking stabs at his older brother's feelings. She wondered
If Ryder had told him anything to make him act this way."Right, well good luck out there... Pup," he emphasized the last word making Luke roll his green eyes. She had heard his friend call Luke that at the club and wondered what it was about.
As his brother ran out to the lush field, Ryder took a seat in front of them and Amethyst was relieved but perhaps too soon.
"Ryder," Amelia said tapping him on the shoulder, "join us?"
He turned around, looking between the two. "I would love to."
She mentally groaned, thinking which hex she could later use on the red head she thought was her friend. Amelia scooted over leaving space for him to set between them.
"Oh look, there's Charlotte... my friend," Amelia said so enthusiastically that Amethyst could tell she was lying. As the red head stood up and ran off to a dark haired girl that she had never seen her speak to before, Ryder spoke.
"What did you want to talk about?" He asked combing his fingers through his raven hair.
"I- er-" in that second she was distracted by his appearance. Ryder just grinned at her, it was almost annoying how confident he seemed.
"We'll talk about it later," she replied curtly and faced the field.
The game had started and ten minutes into it she was on the edge of her seat, Luke had already scored. It was obvious he was using his supernatural abilities in the game, his speed and accuracy was impeccable.
"Show off," she heard Ryder mutter under his breath as Luke scored again. Half of the bleachers roared with excitement.
"Just a little," she said with a shrug of her shoulders.
He smiled at her again, his grey eyes more than happy to see her agree with him.
They won by a landslide thanks to Luke, the team had him hoisted up on their shoulders chanting the school's anthem.
"If you aren't planning on staying for the celebration, perhaps we could have that talk?" He asked her as they made their way down the bleachers.
She hadn't planned on celebrating but the idea of being alone Ryder seemed like the last thing she wanted to do. "I actually already signed up for some school spirit."
"Oh," he frowned. "Well have fun, I better get going." He stood up, taking a look down at the field before he walked off. Amethyst stared at his vacant seat, she didn't want him to leave but something was pulling at her insides telling her no.
"Hallewell," Luke shouted from the field. "You coming or what?" A few members of the team were still carrying him.
Amethyst gave a half hearted smile before cantering off to party with her classmates.
