#58 Actually, tell everyone
Louis:
You weren't sure why he didn't want anyone to know. He was doing a good thing, what was so wrong with that? He wanted to keep it quiet and you tried your best to respect that. He would leave the house every Tuesday afternoon during his breaks and head to the day care down the road from the house the two of you shared. He wouldn't tell you what he was doing down there, but your nosey ways had gotten the best of you quickly. You had called the centre to get the info on his trips there, but he had made them promise not to tell you, or anyone else for that matter. "It's about everyone at the centre, it's not about me." That's all he had ever told you. You had tried to get more from him, but it wasn't happening. He wasn't budging. It was killing you not knowing. He had been doing this for months now with only him and the staff at the centre being the only to know exactly what it was he was up to. You need answers; and you needed to know. You smile at him as he walks into the kitchen. It's a Tuesday afternoon, and you know where he's headed. You hand him a bottle of water, and he takes it as he leans in for a kiss. "I'll see you tonight." You nod and turn back to the lunch you had cooking on the stove. He always stopped by the bakery on his way to the centre to get a lunch for the staff before the kids were dropped off from school, that much he had told you. He didn't know it yet, but you would be stopping by the centre today. You had to know. You would give him a couple of hours down there by himself and then stop by to bring everyone dinner. You had already called a restaurant to cater the dinner. And as far as the people at the centre were concerned, an anonymous person had called to provide the kids and their parents with the meal today. You continue with your lunch, pleased that everything was going to come together. You head out once dinner time comes around, wanting to show up right as the restaurant manager arrives. You take the short drive down the street and park out of sight, just in case Louis steps outside for any reason. As you walk up to the centre you are met by a van. Impeccable timing. "Hi!" You greet happily, extending your hand to the man that steps out of the driver's side. "Hi, you called for a catering?" "I did," you answer with a smile and the two of you head up the stairs and into the centre. "Hi...oh," the girl at the front desk says once she notices you had walked through the door. "Please don't tell him I'm here, not yet at least. I'm just here to set up dinner for right now." "You're the one that called this in for us?" She asks surprised. You smile and nod. "Wow. You and Louis really are incredible. Let me show you where we have our snack, and you all can set up however you want." She leads you over into a small area with large round tables spread throughout the space. "The kitchen is through that door; you can set everything in there. If you need anything I will be up front." She heads back to her desk, and you look around the kitchen to see what you had to work with. "They're individual meals, right?" You question, thinking back to what you had ordered. "Yes, they're all in boxes." You continue to think about how to go about this dinner. "Okay, how about we bring everything in here and then have them come up to this window here and hand them a box. Or we can just sit a box at each seat. What do you think?" He shakes his head. "This is your dinner. I'm just here to help you out." You look out into the eating area to try and picture a placement in your mind. "Okay, how about we just stick a box at every spot and they can just come in and sit down." He nods, agreeing with you, and the two of you head back to the van to get the boxes of food. "What time is dinner?" You ask as you walk back in, a cardboard box full of food in your arms. "Twenty minutes," the girl at the front desk answers and you nod, not much time to get this whole thing together. You quickly get the individual boxes in front of every seat as the guy gets drinks ready. You get the last box placed as kids and parents begin to file into the room. It was nearly five o'clock so most of the families were in the building now along with their kids. You step back into the kitchen, not wanting to be the first thing Louis sees when he walks through the door. "How long do you think it will take him?" The girl from the front desk asks as she walks in through the side door to the kitchen. Louis walks into the eating area immediately after her question is finished. He had a kid on either side of him, their hands gripped tightly in his. You couldn't help but smile. "Where do you want to sit, Callan?" You hear him ask the smaller of the two. The little girl points across the room, further away from you. "Lead the way," he tells her and they walk off to take their seats. As soon as he sits down with them though he looks around the room to make sure everyone from the rec room is now in here, spotting you in the process. His eyes grow wide and he quickly gets up from his seat, promising to return to the girls he had just escorted in. "What are you doing here?" He asks, pulling you aside. "Making sure everyone enjoys their dinner." "You did this?" You nod. You weren't exactly sure how he was taking all of this. He stares at you for longer than you would have liked but eventually places a kiss to your forehead. "Thank you." He walks you out into the eating area, his hand holding yours. "Finally!" One of the older girls praises. "It's about time you brought her around," another one says. He looks over at you and shrugs. You take a seat across from him and the girls that had walked in with him. After making introductions you open up the box in front of you and join everyone for dinner. You couldn't wipe the ridiculously large smile off of your face though as you watched him care for everyone at the table. He was opening silverware, getting up to get extra napkins, cutting the chicken. You had never seen him like this. "I'm going to have to send this to your mum," you tell him as you look at the picture you had just taken of him helping the little girl beside him. "Actually, tell everyone," he says and you look up from your phone. "Really?" "Yeah, stick it up on Instagram or something, these guys deserve the attention."
