I came awake to an empty bed and the smell of food drifting down the hallway. I threw the covers off and crawled out of bed. The more I smelt the food coming from the hallway the more I became hungry. I went to the closet and pulled some pants on slipping them on over my boxers. I heard the door open and I turned to see who it was. Sarah walked through the door looking like she hadn't slept and looking like she was going cry any second. "What's wrong," I ask her closing the distance from us and pulling her into my arms. She rested her head on my chest silent for a second before saying," I ran away so many years ago to get out of this life but I just ran into a different form of this life. I've lived a life of crime since I can remember. I use to say circumstances didn't dictate who you were as a person but I don't know if I believe that. If I hadn't been born into this life I wouldn't be ok with the things I have to do. I wouldn't of been taught the gray area we live in. I would've never pulled that trigger and killed that man in cold blood. I don't know how I'm suppose to feel about killing a man but I feel nothing. That scares me more then anything. I feel like the rest of my life I'll be paying for my father's sins." "No you won't," I say pulling her face back to face me, "We will get out of this life or we will make this life legit and legal. I promise you this Sarah you will not live the rest of your life like this." She leaned forward and kissed me on the lips but was interrupted by her phone ringing.
I looked down at my phone to see Donna's phone number come up. "Hello," I answer my phone. "I'm so sorry Sarah," I barely make out through her crying,"They got the kids I am so sorry." "Have everyone come back to the club so we can get details," I tell her before hanging up the phone. "What's up," Jax ask looking over at me. "They got the kids," I answer leaving the room to find the rest the men. "What the fuck do you mean they have the kids," Jax ask me while following on my heels. I stop dead in my tracks and face him tears streaming down my face. "Lenny has them," I say starting to cry harder. "Church time," Jax yells out echoing throughout the club. "What's going on Jackie boy," papa comes up asking. "No questions yet just church," he says telling Chibs and everyone else,"Joey your crew needs to be in here for this." We all start walking towards the double doors as we place our phones in the box Tig held out for us. As soon as the door closes behind everyone Clay ask, "What's all this about?" I look around the room before answering,"Donna just called me and Lenny has gotten the kids. She is on her way now to give us more details." "What the fuck did you just say," Joey ask his hands gripping the table so hard his knuckles had turned white. I start to cry again as I say,"They have them Joey. What do we do?" "Crew dual," Joey says facing me. "The children walk away for our cooperation in this before the dual happens," Ty says facing the room. "He wants Jax too though," I point out. "How well can you handle a car with kick," Joey ask facing Jax. "Probably as well as you handle a bike but well enough I can do it," Jax answers Joey. "No way in hell," I shout out, "That's like offering him up." "She is my daughter too," Jax answers staring across the table at me. When suddenly there was a knock on the door and it opened enough to reveal Donna. "Come in," Clay says motioning her forward.
I watched as Donna nervously walked into the room followed by Opie, Piney, and Juice. "Now tell me how they were able to take all three of you men down," Clay growls out at the men. "It wasn't their fault," Donna answers for them, "They were shot with these." Donna lays a dart on the table with feathers on the end. "Chinese knock out," Ty says examining the dart. "Donna did you see where they went doll or anything that could help us," Chibs ask Donna. She looks around the room obviously still in a panic before her eyes light up and she says,"The van it said Brothers together inc." "There is a warehouse of theirs in Stockton," Juice looks up from the table saying. "Happy I want you to ride out there and check it out," Clay says before facing me,"For now we wait and I know that will be hard but they aren't going hurt them. They really want you two and they can't hurt their leverage. They will be in contact I promise." "I want to buy the shipment of guns coming in today," Sarah says looking over at Clay. "That shipment is paid for already," Clay tells Sarah,"Marcus is expecting them tomorrow." "Tell him something happened," she says looking at Clay," Give them their money back and I'll pay for their next order to be on the house. Plus I'll pay double what they are worth." "I'll set a meet and see what I can do," Clay says obviously having a change of heart when she mentioned money. "Can I be noisy," Tig ask looking at Sarah. "Shoot," she says looking to him. "I've seen your crew throw money away like its nothing in the past few weeks and you know we make good money but not like that so how is it you have all this money," Tig ask staring across the table. "She doesn't have to answer that," I say glaring at Tig. "No but I'm curious as well," Clay says facing me. "It's ok Jax," Sarah tells me and then faces the table saying," You really didn't do deep research on us did you. If you look at the heist being pulled off in the beginning that they never nailed us with you will see that they weren't small jobs. Then the huge heist after that was worth hundreds of billions of dollars and so was the following. It's not just all the heist I got caught for because there were many I didn't get caught for. Money will never be a worry for myself or my children. Hell even my grandchildren don't have to worry about money." "Ok now I ask will you be my sugar mama," Tig says laughing as Sarah cuts a glare at him. "Ok so we wait," Joey says while standing up to leave. The guys starting leaving the room as well leaving the Redwood originals alone in the room. I look to Sarah who is staring across the room at Chibs with tears falling from her eyes. "We will get the kids back safely Sarah," Clay says standing up from the table and squeezing Sarah's shoulder as he walked by. "I don't know how we are suppose to wait," Sarah says while facing me an lighting up a cigarette. "Because that's all we can do right now," I tell her while stroking her cheek. I watched as Sarah stood up not saying a word and left the room. I went to follow her when Chibs grabbed my shoulder and says,"Give her time Jackie boy. She is hurt and confused." "I can talk to her again," Bobby says to us. "Hell no you fucking nut," Chibs says pointing at Bobby. "Ok ok," Bobby says holding his hands up in surrender then turns to leave the room. "I could," Opie says looking to Chibs and me. I look to Opie and say,"It's worth a try. You were her best friend growing up."
"You know your still a good person," I hear Opie say as he joins me on the roof. "That's debatable," I say with a laugh. I watch as Opie pulls out a cigarette and sits on the ledge of the roof. We sit there in silence for a minute before Opie ask,"Why did you kill that man?" I look to him in shock not realizing that he knew what I had did. "Jax is my best friend we do talk," he tells me picking up on my confusion. I think about the question before I say,"Because he was one of the men responsible for Zach's death." "If you knew the guy would've walked away from this situation and not made another attempt on your families or your life would you of still did it," Opie ask me while handing me a smoke. I lit it up as I thought about the question. I blow out a cloud of smoke and say,"Honest I don't know. I was so mad over my brother dying and the pain consumed me. I wanted someone to hurt like me but I wanted them to be gone so my family would be safe again. When Zach died I kept thinking what if they get my kids. Which they did so honest I wish I would've killed more." "I can guarantee even the people that don't live a life of crime would kill someone who was coming at their family especially their kids," Opie says while taking a drag of his cigarette. "Your protecting your kids and you wouldn't kill anyone unless pushed into a corner with no ways out," Opie says facing me, "Your a good person. I know this. If you weren't you wouldn't be such a mess over taking someone's life." "I have no remorse though that's what your not getting," I tell him while stomping on my cigarette to put it out. Opie lets out a sigh and says,"If you didn't feel remorse you would be sleeping at nights and you wouldn't be trying to figure out why you took a man's life at every turn. You wouldn't think you were a bad person because you wouldn't care Sarah so please trust me your not like the rest." "You should've been the club counselor," I say with a laugh. "I tried but I wanted to kill myself after listening to Tig's problems for a hour," Opie says laughing and nudging me with his elbow.
I watched as Opie and Sarah came in the club laughing. As I looked at Sarah something seemed different but I couldn't place it. "We got a call from Happy," I tell Sarah as they approach me. "What he say," she ask me. I look up at her and say,"He says it definitely being used. Says he has seen men walking around the grounds all heavily armed." "That's where they have to be keeping them," she says looking into my eyes. "Give him another hour to see what else he can find and then we will make our move," I tell Sarah wrapping her in my arms. I wanted to protect her from all this. I wanted to get my kids and Sarah then take them far away from here and this life. I couldn't though as much as I wanted to because this cut was for life and I didn't see a way out.
