A Do or Die.
The Innova moves through the chilled weather and dense fog. It is around 7 AM in the morning. They have been in the car for the past one hour. As Purnit drives through the gradually thining fog Daivik looks at the child now soundly sleeping between Teressa and Brinda. Nilu, once just a student of his play school now almost the biggest source of happiness for all of them. He thinks about how his childhood has been so traumatizing for him, coming from an already struggling household, where survival sounded lavish, he lost his mother at the age of four. His father always wanted to but couldn't afford to provide him with either resources or love, felt at peace when he saw Nilu with them now.
Daivik never saw him talking or smiling after his mother's death, he almost lost hope, when, like the walking angel she is, Teressa walked into his life - their lives and brought them out of that darkness. He became selfish, selfish enough to tear her away from his younger brother. Who, now that he looks at him, seems more similar to Nilu but more matured in covering his feelings. He always has been like this.
When their father treated him like a nonexistent he looked at everyone else and smiled like it's okay, as if silently saying he is Dad and he has every right to treat him any way he finds fit. Initially Ritwik was just a silent spectator like him, trained and groomed to become a proper Nagpati but with time something changed in him. He started reacting, something both of them were prohibited from doing. His dislike towards their father and how he treated Manik was evident. That's why, whenever their Dad was at home, although very rarely, he stopped joining the lunch table where all of them would sit except for Manik, their youngest brother. Their mother sat, just beside him but never ate a thing. And he, the Eldest brother, blinded by their father's conceited mentality and manipulation, followed every single of his orders, because he once said:
"You are the eldest and don't have the option of reacting. The entire house, the entire industry depend on you. You make one wrong choice and the lives of so many people, be it your family's or employees', would be sacrificed. They look upto you Dev, don't disappoint them, don't let them starve to death or go homeless just because you couldn't man up. You have responsibilities bigger than your brothers. Always keep that in mind."
He chuckles, dry and humourless. His eyes go back to his youngest brother once again. Four of them are sitting in the backseat. To his left sits Arjun and then Leo against the window seat. To his right sits his once little but now truly grown up brother, who is nowadays known as Vulcan. An identity he made all by himself, by his own struggle and talent. No inheritance, no financial support, no recommendation.. all on his own. Proving their father wrong, proving how no one, practically no one depended on him. Everyone around him is their own person, self made and had an existence of their own.
After ages, he feels like a weight just got lifted off of his shoulder.
"How many of his warehouses did you guys hijack?" He asks to which he hears Ritwik coughing all of a sudden and Leo trying to count the trees outside, while Arjun looks pale. Vulcan with his eyes still fixed in his laptop answers quite nonchalantly,
"Not many, some fifteen are still left."
"That's a vague answer you know. How many do they have in total?" He asks suspiciously to this Arjun answer in a very small voice,
"Ninety."
Before Daivik could react both Brinda and Teressa turn around from the front seat, whisper shouting, "WHAT" in proper unison.
"You have hijacked seventy five of their warehouses? Why?" Brinda asks, her eyes fixed at Vulcan. Who looks back at her calmly.
"With nearly zero casualties. Trust me." He assures.
