Chapter 22

Darkness enveloped everything as the cold biting night nipped at the exposed skin on Imio's body. He had no particular direction in mind as he traveled. What he did know was that something was drawing him South. As if an  invisible force or magnet was dragging him in that direction. The embers of the fire he created to eat and keep warm were now a deep burgundy as the warmth seeped out of the charred logs.

During this time he discovered that Irma had one last form that for some reason wasn't visible during their union of souls or sollemis itexo aima was a book. This book was like nothing Imio had ever seen before. It looked like a book of recipes. There were words objects and incantations within this book that he couldn't even imagine how they would work and if they did work. What they looked like? The only real tangible understanding that he had over the book was that it fascinated him endlessly.

He first discovered the book a few days after leaving Ater and his Master. Irma was talking with him as they were acquainting themselves with one another. One night while they were speaking over an unimportant issue Imio noticed the book as he looked at her.

"What's that? pointing to it as he spoke.

This surprised Irma a little because she wasn't expecting the question. She seemed to pull it out of thin air and place it in front of herself so that Imio could see it properly.

Looking at the book. He again asked. "What is this? Looking at isn't gonna give meh da answer." Slipping into Fendolrig's archaic language. A habit that he pick up over the many years he was with the old man.

"This is the Alchemist Grimoire. A book that can only be understood by you. It contains a great deal of information and will be utilized during battles."

"Battles?"

"Yes! Battles! You must have already felt that this world is in grave danger. Right?"

"I don't know about any grave danger, but, I have had this feeling that I should go South. Maybe somewhere down the line I will have a clearer idea about what it is that I'm supposed to accomplish. However, as I see things now. There's no way that I have some important role to achieve. I will continue to follow my gut an head into the direction that my body wants to move."

"I have never expected you to just follow along without questioning anything. That would make you unqualified to become an alchemist and to be my destined partner. So the way you are feeling right now is actually pleasing to hear that you have these concerns."

"We have been away from that place for a week and we haven't been pursued. I have a feeling that I need to learn as much as possible before I reach my destination to the South. I have been working out a few issues on my own but something is bothering me."

"What's on your mind?"

"What are you? Are there others that have this ability as well? If so how many of them are there and where can I find them?"

"The answers that I can give you will ultimately lead to more questions but I will try my best to answer what I can without confusing you."

"Thanks I really do appreciate this."

"Then I will begin with what I am. I too once lived in this world with my family and friends. My life was quite and peaceful. The village I lived in was harmonious and shared the land with it's natural creatures and nature. I came from a highly respected alchemic family. We were well known for the deed that we accomplished. As a child I would often tag along with family members as they completed tasks for others. These tasks ranged from the mundane and simple to the urgent and complex. I was fortunate enough to witness the different workings of alchemy and its versatility. During my adolescents and transition into adulthood a war broke out. However, this wasn't an ordinary war. A shadowed figure came to our village one day and began to wreck havoc. Chaos engulfed my home village leaving nothing left. Those that defended themselves were inevitably consumed by the shadowed figure. Even those from my family were also consumed." Irma stopped talking for a moment.
