Caleb’s POV

Awake. It’s a strange sensation I didn’t think I would be able to recognize for a long time. I remember the flames Teletas spewed everywhere, and they hurt like hell. I can’t believe I let myself slip into an unconscious state even for a few minutes.

Blinking my eyes open, I hear the groans of other pack members. Did we all pass out at the same time? I remember hitting the trees a few times but I always managed to bounce back. How did I manage to be on my side anyway?

“What happened? I can barely move,” Zeke says through the bond.

“No clue,” I reply through the bond. I just remember the terrible burning sensation. I thought I died for a second. I’m glad I’m not though. Thalia would not be okay with that.

Now that I’m thinking about Thalia, why is there a sharp pain in my chest? Did something happen to her? There’s also something heavy resting on my chest. What’s this? When I look down I gasp at the sight.

I sit up immediately and pull Thalia to me.  What happened to my mate? Blood is on the ends of her tangled hair and her body is colder than normal. Her eyes are closed tightly and she’s like a ragdoll. I look over Thalia’s body with a more careful, and that’s when I notice the hole in her side. There’s a lot of blood, her blood, on my chest and I can only let my eyes fill with the same color because of my anger.

Thalia’s spell she cast in the house some-what worked because my pants are on but why am I in human form? Maybe the impact of her death forced me to shift back. My wolf is still controlling most of my actions and thoughts though. The anger, heart break, and need to destroy are driving me wild. I need answers right now.

“Someone! Someone tell me what the hell happened!” I growl. Someone had to see my mate stabbed and I’ll kill who ever didn’t save her.

In wolf form, Zeke and Donna run my way and Donna licks Thalia’s forehead.

“She’s been dead for at least an hour,” Donna says through the bond. What? How? When? It doesn’t really matter right now.

“Fix her! Heal her! Tell me what she needs! I’ll get it!” I growl as my inner wolf cannot control his rage and growing grief.

Donna takes a step back and Zeke barks a command her way. I pull Thalia close to me and can’t hear a heartbeat. No, I refuse to believe my mate has died. Thalia’s the strong one of the two. She would be pissed if she knew she got injured. There’s no way my mate can just die on me. I won’t accept that!

“Caleb we need to go. Bring her to the pack or something, but it’s not safe here,” Zeke tries to explain through the bond but I growl with my alpha voice to silence him.

I’m sure my eyes are even more sinister than I thought because Zeke takes a few steps back. I’ve just had enough of people telling me what to do tonight. Only my mate can do that!

“Don’t tell me about safety. If I want to die here with my mate, I will!” I growl. No one can tell me any differently because they just don’t understand how I feel right now. I still don’t know how I feel. I just want to kill someone and watch the blood run. I want the blood of everything that crosses my path so my pack better respect me or else they’ll be the animals that satisfy my needs.

“She wouldn’t want that, Alpha,” Aston says through the bond. Luckily for him, Aston is leading Vienna away. He’s lucky he’s about to be a father. I will never take a father away from his pups. At least Aston has his mate though. My mate, the one I swore to protect, is gone.
