Chapter Twelve
Unforgiven
......................
"I can see you." I growled.
"Just because I haven't turned around doesn't mean I don't know you are following me."
I marched angerly through the forest, ignoring the squirrels, the small rodents and birds that I had once stopped to admire.
'Ah so I see the young wolf is using her instincts now.'
The soft voice of the Kitsune ran through my thoughts.
"What do you want!" I snapped at the red tail flashing through the bushes.
'I was mearly showing you that those you trust, must not be trusted.'
"What are you talking about!" I growled stomping over a small bush.
'You shall see in time.' She whispered
"Whatever. I am growing tired of your vague messages." I crawled under a low tree branch.
'I am only helping you for your own good.' She barked.
I heard with my ears a definite bark but words formed in my head.
"How is hurting my friends, helping me?" I asked confused turning suddenly on the small fox.
'In time you will see.' She insisted, her eyes staring straight into me. The tip of one red ear twitching.
"So why are you here?" I growled "why help me?"
'You are wolf. Kitsune serve wolf.'
"That sounds a little off from what I have heard." I kicked a rock.
"You are a fox. Your supposed to play games with people, mess with my mind. You shouldn't want to help me. In fact what's there for me to being you aren't lying to me right now?" I snapped fiercely
She stared at me wide eyes. I could tell my eyes were changing colors.
She watched me in silence for a few seconds before lowering her eyes.
'You out rank me. I could never lie to an Alpha.' She lowered her head and shrunk down close to the ground.
I remembered my grandfather speaking of Alphas. They are the highest rank of a wolf in a pack. The leaders. They ruled either through blood, being inborn leader, or through force, by fighting for control and title of Alpha.
"I am not an Alpha." I squealed.
How could I be. You have to belong to a pack to be Alpha.
NO you have to LEAD a pack to be Alpha.
"I'm not even a wolf yet."
'Yet?' she lifted her head. Her eyes studying me confused. Her tail thumped the ground impatiently.
'How is that?' She scratched her nose with her paw.
'Males turn around age ten, females thirteen to fifteen'
"Well I'm nearly eighteen." I barked.
Wait did I just BARK!
The Kitsune chuckled. 'Yes you are mighty old to have your first change. Such a rarity. No doubt you will be special.
No wonder your wolf is showing through. She is unhappy from being caged in for so long. I can see she will be a strong one, and a feral one at that. Very wild indeed.'
"Wha. What are you talking about?" I stammered.
" Your inner wolf. Your other half.
She does not take kindly for being ignored. She has needs to, you know. She craves to run. To be free. To be unleashed upon the world.
But you have her locked away. But not for long you see, she will break out with or without your permission and your control, and you may not be able to control her.' The Kitsune mused.
'Yes you see wolves are not forgetful. They hold a vengeance. She will be unforgiving. Once she is set loose, you will not have control of her but you must learn to live and adapt to her. Her needs, her wants, her way of life. You will have no choice. You can't fight it, you can only accept it.'
"And what if I don't want to?" I asked unsure my voice shaking
'Then don't.' She whispered
'Have your wolf take complete control over your body whenever she feels like it, let her do as she wishes and destroy whatever she likes and leave you to clean up the pieces.' Her voice rose higher and higher till she went from a whisper to a growl.
"And how do you suppose I fix this problem?" I eyed her carefully
'Give in to your instincts more often. Give her a chance to show herself and what she can do. You will be surprised.' The Fox shook her pelt stood up from where she had sat, and began to walk away.
"Hey where are you going?" I shouted after her.
She continued walking away.
"STOP." I barked
She froze.
Wow I don't know where that outburst came from. I'm usually not that forceful.
She turned to face me, her head lowered in submission.
"Sorry." I mumbled.
She looked up at me confused. Not because I yelled at her but because I had said sorry.
'Don't apologize. I see your Alpha power resignates through your voice.'
"Power?" I laughed "I don't have any power. Your crazy!"
'Ah but you do you just don't see it now.'
With that she disappeared into the forest only the shaking of the bushes left as a reminder that she had once been there.
