"Shit, Clara, answer the damn phone. Mommy's gonna be here in two hours," was what I heard in all-too familiar voice after nearly giving me heart attack when the door opened abruptly.
It is Nate. It is definitely him. I can tell he's nervous since I keep hearing footsteps, one thing he always does when he's nervous.
How would I know that?
I don't have any friend after Clara sudden disappearance and frankly I have no choice but to befriend with him. Is Clara running away? If so, why would she do that? There must be another reason for her aside from her parents' divorcement. I know she's one hell of a strong girl, she won't do anything harm to herself because her parents will be seperated. Hell, she even recovered from heartbreak in less than 2 days. I'm starting to doubt if she still has feelings after all.
The door haven't been opened yet since Nate came in, so I figured he must be sleeping in Clara's bed. Slowly but carefully, I peek the sight of the room while squinting my eyes. Damn how will I ever adjusted to the color black. Once I see Nate is still playing with his phone, I immediately closed the door abruptly, making the sound of a soft thud.
"Who's there?" His voice sounds alarmed. "Hannah, are you cleaning in Clara's private room?"
Should I answer him? Or should I not?
I swallowed. I've never been good in acting. This makes me want to slap myself for not paying attention at my drama class. Maybe if I do, I could transform my voice to the so-called maid called Hannah. Then again, how am I suppose to know if this Hannah is old or not? Alright it's a stupid idea. He'd shut up eventually.
I feel the doorknob on the door I'm standing on right now twisted a bit, and it took me a second to realize what Nate's about to do. Since the room was sized a half of elevator (I guess. I mean it's black and no lights in here, how was I supposed to know the real size?) and it will be suspicious if I locked it, I pressed my back to the door and my feet kicking the wall in front of me. I hold my breath while doing so, if Nate founds out that I'm here I'd be even more screwed.
He still struggle to open the door but eventually he stopped. "Weird."
"Maybe it was just a rat," he muttered to himself softly, enough for me to hear him. But seriously? A fucking rat in this big house? I found every piece of the furnitures were spotless, how would a decent rat would even live here?
I let out a sigh of relief, while wiping the sweats on my forehead with the back of my hand. It's getting hot in here and all I want to do is drive home to have a cuddle with Harry while we're watching Netflix or something.
I snorted silently.
Yeah. Like that would happen.
Not long after I was cut with my own thoughts about Harry, the phone Nate's probably holding on right now ring and he let them be until he answered on the fourth ring.
"'Sup, brother?" Nate said with a loud voice, I could tell he has a fake grin on his face right now. I tilted my body so my back was no longer facing the door so I could hear Harry and Nate's conversation.
"What?"
"No, wait. Avery's not home with you?"
"Yeah, yeah, I get that but I'm not planning to launch the operation on her anytime soon."
Okay what operation does he talking about?
"Her friend? Jeez, how come are you so dumb, brother? Avery only have one friend and it's Clara. Well that nerdy girl included."
Should I be offended for the fact that he said I don't have any friends except Clara or the fact that Nate doesn't even remember Ana's name?
"I don't know where she is."
