"Nate?"
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Why the hell are you crying?"
Instead of answering, I pulled myself into the passenger seat. I didn't even bother to wait for him to get me inside. I'm just simply too scared of that creepy guy who ran after me five seconds ago. Who knows he'll come all the way here.
"I-" my hiccup cut me off. "I just.. please drive me to my home."
My voice came out as a whisper, by the look from Nate's face, I know he's suspicious about what's going on. He doesn't say anything, thankfully, and hit the pedal nevertheless.
The car ride is silent, with him focusing on the road and me with my annoying hiccups there and there. I rub my chest in attempt to stop it, but it wouldn't bulged. When I turned my head to see his face, I could see him biting his lips and suddenly it come to my awareness.
"What?" Another hiccup. "Don't laugh."
He turned to me one more time, this time he couldn't hold it anymore as he stiffle a laugh, a soft one, until it came loud as he try to get himself together by holding his stomach.
"It's not funny," I said with an annoyed tone. He notice that I'm annoyed, but he doesn't want to stop laughing. Very well.
"Stop-" a hiccup comes out again. Damn it! "Stop laughing."
After minutes with me commanding him to stop, he finally gain his focus. He shake his head again before saying, "You are so cute when you get hiccups."
I rolled my eyes. "Cute enough to make you laugh to death, huh?"
"Damn girl, I just said you're cute, aren't you gonna thank me?"
I didn't answer, in fact if I do, my hiccups will get worse. We finally reach our neighbourhood and I'm more than relieved to see my favorite pizza palace is insight. It's very tempting. That restaurant is still open in this hour.
Nate saw me watching that restaurant, thank God I didn't drool when I did it, and him being his usual self, start to tease me. "You know it's pretty obvious about the fact that you're hungry."
I shrugged and raised both of my eyebrows in agreement. It's better to keep my mouth shut. First, this hiccup hurts. Second, Nate is an annoying little twat. And third, yes, this hiccup's really hurts.
My hand starts rummaging through the dashboard in order to find a decent bottle of water while my other hand still holds my painful chest. I've never had hiccups like this before. Usually I would just inhale and exhale for three times, then boom, the hiccups gone.
"What are you looking for?" Nate's eyes turning back and forth from the road to my direction. I rolled my eyes, does he really asking me that question?
"Wa-" I swallowed from my hiccups. "Water."
He shook his head immediately. "You won't find any in there."
I gulped. He seriously doesn't care about my well being.
"Please. Water." I manage to say.
"The thing is... I have a drink," He trailed off, unsure of what he says. It almost seemed like he's embarassed. Don't tell me it's alcohol.
"Not," another hiccup cut me. "Alcohol?"
Nate suddenly hit the brake when we reach the intersection and the traffic lights turning red. "Of course not," He turned his head and put on this are-you-crazy look on me.
He moved his hand to the cup holder in his left side. After a second of thought, he shows it. It's a decent drink, I guess. But it looks awful.
And it's color is green.
