In one quick motion, I snatch my bag and start running through the long way school hall. Times like this I feel like my school has the size of a giant castle even though I've been here for almost 3 years. I'm used to running through these hallways, but how come this country even have a school this vast. It's my first day in senior year. Apparently I am going to be late. Classic.
Gotta freshen up the new start, right?
Not long after I find out there are no students walking around it's official that I'm late. On my peripheral vision Ms Perkins, the Mighty Principal is making her way towards my class. I quickly open my class door and sit down in the back, not aware of the fact that Mr George is actually aware of my presence.
"Late again, Hailey?"He asked.
Seriously? Hailey? It's Avery for god's sake, why can't he shove it to that little brain of his.
Great. Even in situations like this my subconscious still have the need to drop sarcasm there and there.
Almost automatically my hands itch to bury my face because I swear everyone is looking at me. Then again, this happens almost everyday so instead I smile innocently.
"It's my mom. She-" I stopped as I heard the door is knocked. My eyebrows furrowed.
The Mom Excuse have always worked.
Either way, I thank God because whoever it is that knocked the door has just saved me from another punishment.
"Save it," Mr. George shifts his expression to a happy mood at the sight of his boss. Pft, two faced teachers. "Good morning, Ms. Perkins. Is something wrong?"
He sends me a we're-not-done-here look when he's sure no one see him. The principal enter the class with a young man. Did that guy just pop out from the earth? I didn't see any glimpse of him in the corridor. Weird.
The guy was tall and well-built. His shoulders were broad and he stood with a confident smirk on his face as his eyes roaming around the classroom. To say his hair was messy was an understatement. It was styled in such disheveled ways making me wonder if he even brushed it today. And I couldn't help but notice that his hair color matched his eyes.
From what I see by how he moved I could tell he's a jock. I'm not the stalker type or anything but hey, my school doesn't have a lot cute boys to check out.
The confident smirk on his face however soon replaced by a cocky smirk after his eyes landed on me. I sat up straight and pursed my lips.
Damn, I thought. Did he notice I was checking out on him?
If that the case my pride would sunk right to the bottom of the sea in this very moment.
My eyes narrowed at him once I realize now he's the one checking me up and down. The cocky smirk on his face never left him as his lips twitch upwards, smiling at me. His attention was focused on me I bet he paid no attention on what Mr. George said. Though I finally notice the principal is out of my sight.
He tear his gaze away from our little staring scheme and introduce himself with a calm tone. Turns out his name is Nathaniel. I swear I had a never ending crush with Nathaniel Archibald from Gossip Girl, but this topic is irrelevant.
I snapped out of my thoughts. There are sure a lot more people with that name. Nathaniel sounds like a name for British or Aussie. Though it might be European for all I know. Nah, I'm not like, trying to figure this guy out entirely am I? Once he finished with his introduction his eyes found its way to mine again.
Now that is strange, Gossip Girl guy.
Much to my surprise, that guy sits in front of me. Just dandy, I didn't even know that there's no one there! I have a bad feeling about him. More likely I'm terrified if I'm going to embarrass myself. I could tell by his aura and after our awkward and intense stare are sure makes it worse.
My eyes widened at the whole thing processed and the next thing I know after Mr. George turned his head to the board I found Nathaniel guy's brown eyes went directly at mine until my breath comes to a halt as soon as his lips muttered something that sure took me by surprise.
"Hey Avery."
I swallowed and look around my chest. Do I wear a name tag or something?
How the hell did he know my name?!
It's not like I'm famous or anything.
"How did..." my voice comes out as a whisper so I clear my throat. "How do you know my name?"
His body snap back to me as he flash a grin. "I know everything."
I had to restrain myself to not to let out a sarcastic comeback instead I just roll my eyes and muttered, "And I'm Queen Elizabeth the Third."
Nathaniel let out a chuckle as he shake his head amusingly. His ears are sure working properly since he could hear it. I sigh heavily as my eyes find its way to the window that let me view the juniors on the football field doing their PE class.
My mind transferred back to the guy sitting in front of me. Who is he? How could he know my name?
The class ends forty minutes later. I absentmindedly grab all my things and leave the class. Being a clumsy girl I am, I dropped my notebook. After muttered some unnecessary curses, I crouched down to take it.
Next thing I know when I stand up on my feet again, my eyes landed on a pair of brown eyes two feet in front of me.
"Nat-"
"It's Nate."
Thank you for the confidential information.
"Uh, okay. Nate." I shift awkwardly. "You're standing on the doorway."
He didn't answer, instead, he smirked and take one step closer to me.
"Um, what are you doing?"
The so-called Nate purse his lips. "I know you, Avery."
"Could you please tell me how the hell did you know my name and move so I can go to my next class?!" I say, exasperated.
His face inched closer to mine, looking at me straight in the eye. My face was laced in confusion. He's a transfer. I've never met him before nor ever heard his name. What is the possibility of him knowing my life? Either that or he's just a total creep. Hearing a total stranger say my name out if the blue just make me furious.
The class was empty since the students are probably on their classes right now, considering final bell rang five minutes ago. This guy doesn't answer any of my question and keeps creeping me out by his choice of words. Before I burst out something I would regret, he turns his heel and left the classroom leaving me speechless on the tranquil classroom with my lips parted and my feet pinned firmly to the ground.
