"Avery please answer me."
"Are you there?"
"I really need to talk to you."
"You have to listen to me,"
"Can I meet you right now? Or maybe afterschool?"
"I know you're there, Avery. Just answer me," The person sighed, tired is evident in the voices. "When can I meet you?"
I held my breath, trying to hold back my tears that was about to escaped my eyes by now. The person kept talking for the last five minutes yet I can't manage to say a single word to answer.
"Just answer this.. May I go to your house this afternoon?" There was a pause for a moment. "And you will never see me again."
I gaped, hearing the last sentence. Glancing up, I took one long sigh.
"No you may not. I don't want to meet you, ever again."
I hung up the phone and put it back to my pocket. Clara and Nate were already left the cafetaria and tried to find me. I'm not crying although I was half way to. I took a deep breath. Counting from thirty to one, I walked towards them. Counting numbers are my meditation to keep me relax and calm.
"Where were you?" Clara asked.
Nate lifted my chin up. "Are you okay?"
I shook my head and smiled to both of them. "I'm fine, let's head to our classes," They nodded and walked beside me.
Just as the school ended, I quickly grabbed my things without waiting for Clara again. I know she always have someone to pick her up and give a ride. Pretty girls deserve that.
Sorry, Clar-hun. Now's not a good time.
Car keys. Where's my car keys? I dived my hands to my pocket but they were empty. I checked my bag, it has to be there in some circumstances. Zero. No signs of my car keys. I knew I should've give my car keys some kind of red big ribbon so it wouldn't be too hard to recognize.
"Looking for something?" said someone behind me. I furrowed my brows and turned.
"Nate?" I emphasized his name. "What're you doing here?"
"Did you look for something?" He asked back, not paying attention to my previous question.
I gave in and sat at the edge of the car. I don't even know why I did that, maybe because the big amount of my tiredness that I felt. At first he looked at me with puzzled expression. But he sat beside me anyway. I shut my eyes, putting my arm to conceal it.
"You want to talk about it?"
I shook my head. "Nah not really."
"You can trust me." He shrugged. I chuckled sarcastically.
"No, I'm serious. If you didn't trust Clark you can tell everything to me."
I frowned. "Clark?" He nodded. "Clara. I loved to tease her with the name Clark."
I rolled my eyes. "Of course I trust her, Nate. She's my one and only bestfriend, God, who am I going to talk to except her? Besides it's not about trusting anyone."
He narrowed his eyes to me. "Then what?"
"Not at liberty to say. It's hard to explain."
"You're weird."
