Chapter 1

I heard a knock at my door and I ignored it. It was probably just another neighbor offering lasagna just like the rest of them. They knocked again.

I groaned and slowly got to my feet. I swung open the door and gasped at the person standing in front of me. He was gorgeous. He had rosy pink and full lips that any girl would kill for, his blonde hair caught the light perfectly and his green eyes sparkled as they stared into mine. I smiled at him.

“This might sound weird,” I started. “But would you mind if I took a photo of you?”

The boy looked a little confused but shrugged. “No problem, do you want me to pose or…?”

I shook my head and cut him off. “No! Don’t move it’s the perfect light.”

I walked back inside and looked around the many boxes inside the lounge room. When I found the one that was labeled with my name on it, I opened it up and started rummaging through it.

“Are you almost ready because not moving is getting kind of hard?” The boy called from the front door. I could tell he was joking when he added a small chuckle at the end of it.

I ran back to the front door and turned on my camera. “Just stand there and smile.”

The boy chuckled. “Not too hard when I get to look at you. Why are you doing this again?”

I snapped a few shots and looked at them before taking a few more. “Because, I’m in photography and where you’re standing has the perfect light.”

“Ah, so it’s not just my handsome face then?” He asked. “Or are you just using that as an excuse for wanting a picture of me above your bed?”

I looked up into his smiling face and tried to look stern but I knew I had failed when he started laughing. I started snapping a few more shots and laughed with him.

“Thanks for that.” I told him when I was done. “You just got me at least a B plus.”

“Not even an A? That is a little harsh. What high school are you going to? You just moved here right. That is why my mum made me come over and say hello isn’t it?” He wondered peering inside and seeing all the boxes.

I nodded. “I’m going to go to the one around the block. The one that’s near the beach.”

He smiled and held out his hand. “Me too, I’m Jesse by the way.”

I shook his hand. “I’m Zarah.”

“Oh, like a princess?” He wondered.

I tried not to glare at him. “I hate it when people call me that.”

He chuckled.

I looked into his eyes. “I don’t mean to be rude but if you have a plate of food don’t bother, there’s no room left in the fridge.”

He winced. “I’m not sure I believe you.”

I sighed and opened the door. “Come check the fridge then.”

He shook his head. “What I meant is I think you had every intention of being rude and you just want me to go away.”

I rolled my eyes. “Is it working?”

I grinned. “Nope, you won’t get rid of me that easily.”

I sighed and opened the door wider so that he could walk in. “Then can you at least help me unpack?”

Within an hour, Jesse and I were getting along as if we’d known each other all of our lives. We’d unpacked all of the little things that needed unpacking in my room and Jesse’s been going through my old band t-shirts and CDs. I watched him screw up his face as he pulled out an old Nikki Webster CD.
