Chapter 15

“There’s nothing to talk about. I think we covered everything earlier today.” I told him feeling tired.

He shook his head. “Zarah I don’t know what you want to hear but I know what I want to say. I don’t trust myself around you either. Whenever you look at me I feel drunk and I don’t know what to say so please just let me get everything out.”

I shook my head. “I don’t want to listen Ashton.”

He frowned and looked at his feet. “You just called me Ashton.”

“That is your name isn’t it?” I rolled my eyes. “I don’t want to do this now please let me just have fun for one night.”

He shook his head. “I need to tell you something.”

I took a step back. “And I need you to stop trying.”

Then I turned and walked straight into Caden’s arms.

“What’s wrong?” He whispered.

I shook my head. “I just didn’t see you.”

He hesitated but then laughed. “Well aren’t you happy to see me?”

I nodded. “But I’d be even happier with a drink in my hand.”

He grinned and grabbed my hand and started to lead me to the esky. “Let’s go get one then.”

We met Ant, Cleo and Jesse at the bar and were later joined by Andy. We all sat there chatting and smiling at everything we said before Josh came over and decided it was time to get the party started.

He gave me a warm smile and nodded at Jesse. “Come on dude; get your guys up there. I want to dance to some real music.” Then he held his hand out to me. “Dance with me Zarah.”

I smiled and looked to Caden.

“Don’t you be flirting with my girl man.” He said in mock threat.

Josh and I chuckled before he practically dragged me away from them. Before I knew it we were dancing and Jesse, Caden, Andy and Ant were up the front playing familiar sounding songs.

Cleo had dragged some other poor guy into dancing with her and I laughed at them. Josh looked followed my gaze and saw them together. He chuckled with me.

“Poor Leon, he doesn’t know how to say no.” Josh shook his head and I hit his chest playfully.

“Why can’t he dance with Cleo, maybe he wanted to?” I challenged.

He shook his head. “I still haven’t introduced you to him have I?”

“Nope, why is there something I should know?” I asked him warily.

He nodded and leaned in to whisper in my ear. “Leon’s gay.”

I looked up, shocked. “Like gay, gay? Into men gay?”

Josh laughed and swirled me around effortlessly. “Uhuh, definitely but it’s still on the down low so don’t go blurting it to just anyone.”

I nodded suspiciously. “Like everyone here at this party?”

“You, I and Leon are the only ones that know.” He whispered again.

I hit his chest again. “Remind me never to tell you a secret.”

“You probably won’t get the chance, two weeks and I’m gone again remember?” He shook his head.

“Why didn’t you want your brother to know that?” I demanded.
