Chapter 5
Ant found me first so we snuck off to sit around together and chat. He held my hand as we walked and even when we sat down he didn’t try to let go.
We were sitting alone quietly talking about school and music. We learnt that we were into similar bands and he told me about Jesse’s band. He promised he’d take me to their next gig.
“You’d do that?” I asked him a little surprised.
He shrugged. “Why not, it’s a date.”
I winced at the sound of the word. “When is it?”
“This weekend, why?” He looked a little worried so I smiled.
“No reason, just wondering.” I told him lying back into the grass.
“Speak of the devil.” Anthony muttered.
I sat upright again just in time to see Jesse walking up to where we were sitting. He had a huge grin on his face and his arms were open. When he reached us he pulled me up into a hug and spun me around a few times. I laughed, a little taken aback.
“What was that for?” I asked brushing my hair off my face.
He grabbed my face and kissed each of my cheeks. “It worked!”
Anthony cut in looking a little awkward. “What worked?”
I laughed and hugged Jesse again. “He’s a free man, Demi is gone!”
Ant clapped him on the back and grinned. “Good for you dude. You could have any girl you want now. Too bad the hottest one’s taken.”
“I don’t know, I think Princess here could give her a run for her money.” Jesse said smiling at me.
Ant scoffed. “I was talking about Zarah.”
My eyes bugged out of my head. “What?”
Jesse gave me an apologetic smile and slowly backed away. “I’ve gotta’ go.”
I waved him away and turned back Ant.
He grinned. “What’s wrong, you look like you’ve just seen a ghost.”
“What do you mean I’m ‘taken’?” I asked as if it were a dirty word.
He shrugged. “I figured you’d know what it means.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m not as dumb as most blondes.”
He chuckled, his eyes shining in the sunlight. “Well, then I meant exactly what I said.”
I laughed bitterly. “I’m not ‘taken’ I’m a person not a toy.”
He put a hand on my arm and pulled me into his arms. “You know what I mean.”
I shook my head. “I’m not sure I do.”
“You’re practically my girlfriend Zarah; none of the other guys can touch you while you’re with me.” He smiled softly obviously trying to be romantic.
“Girlfriend, when were you going to talk to me about this?” I demanded placing my hands on my hips.
“I figured you already thought that yesterday when you kissed me.” He said dumbly.
He grinned wickedly. “I kissed Jesse this morning too.”
He shook his head. “That was different.”
“How?” I asked him.
“You were trying to piss off Demi.” He explained.
“Then it’s no different, I was trying to piss off my mum.” I told him.
