Chapter 2
“Who was that boy you were making out with yesterday?” Was the first thing mum asked when I woke up the next morning.
“What no ‘good morning Zarah’ or anything?” I wondered buttering my toast and sitting down at the table to eat it.
I was still in my pyjamas and I knew it pissed her off to see that I wasn’t ready for my first day of school. I would have decided to show u late if it weren’t for Jesse picking me up.
“Who was he Zarah?” She had her hands on her hips and everything.
“Why do you care? I don’t ask you whenever you make out with a guy do I? Besides we weren’t kissing.” I told her rolling my eyes. “He was comforting me.”
“Uhuh, I find that very hard to believe Zarah. Now finish your breakfast and go get ready for school. I’ll drive you since you’re clearly not going to catch the bus.” She looked at me frostily.
I shook my head. “Don’t’ bother; I’ve already got a lift.”
“What are you talking about?” She snapped. “It’s the bus or me.”
I shook my head. “Jesse’s picking me up.”
“I suppose that’s the boy you were kissing yesterday?” She guessed.
I shrugged. “He might be one of them.”
“What do you mean one of them Zarah!?” She looked so appalled that I laughed.
I smirked pleased with myself and headed back up the stairs to get ready for school.
I turned on the shower and quickly washed before hopping out again and drying myself. I hadn’t got around to unpacking my clothes yesterday so I had to rummage inside one of my boxes. I pulled out a pair of my fishnet tights and a black skirt. I pulled them on and looked around on the floor for one of my old band shirts Jesse and I had looked at yesterday.
I settled on a rolling stones one and threw it on over my head. It was tight around my waist and it didn’t go past my hips. My skirt rested in the middle of my knees and thighs and I shoved my feet into a pair of ankle height chuck taylors and laced them up.
I grabbed a bag off the edge of my bed and slammed my door on the way out. I headed into the bathroom again to fix up my makeup. I lined my eyes with black eye liner and flicked them again with mascara then I grabbed a cotton bud and smudged it all to make it look smoky.
I puckered my lips and smeared them with a pale pink lip gloss then I grabbed my beads off the bench and placed them around my neck. In my room I knew I had bangles and ratty old friendship bands so I went in there and added them to my wrists as well.
“Zarah, that boy’s here!” She called.
I rolled my eyes. “Whatever mum?”
I took the stairs two at a time until I reached the bottom. I moodily shouldered my way past mum and out the front door. I didn’t look back as Jesse followed me to his car and I climbed into the driver’s seat.
“Sure, you can drive.” Jesse chuckled and opened the passenger door.
I looked at him and sighed. “Thanks.”
“No problem, you wanna’ talk about it?” He offered helpfully.
“I appreciate your concern Jess but there’s really nothing to talk about. I’m fine, I promise.” I told him with a grin as I swerved around a corner.
“Then why did you look so pissed off?” He asked sounding a little amused.
“I used to be into drama and stuff, I’m a good actress and mum pisses me off.” I told him with a shrug.
