Chapter 13

By the time I got home I was exhausted. Caden walked me to my door and we stood staring at each other for a whole two minutes before I finally sighed and he looked away awkwardly.

“Hey…um tomorrow night there’s this party.” He started. “Jesse and his brother Josh host one every time Josh comes home and there’s nothing to do. Would you wanna’ go with me?”

I shrugged. “I guess so.”

“I don’t know if your band have been talking about it but sometimes they do a few songs.” He informed me. “So does my band and Josh and his mates. It’s a lot of fun. We try to stay out of your way but at least one of you is cool this time around.”

I smiled and then frowned. “You mean Ash is usually there?”

“It’s his brother too.” He reminded me.

I nodded. “Of course, yeah, I’ll be there. Do you mind if I invite Cleo?”

He shrugged. “Don’t see why not, she seems cool.”

I grinned and stepped towards him. He smiled and I laughed.

“I have a question for you.” He whispered close to my face.

I placed a very fake smile on my face and sighed. “What would that be?”

“Would it be completely insane if I told you I wanted you to be my girlfriend?” He wondered sounding as cocky and happy as he did when we first met.

I shrugged. “Probably, I heard you have a pretty bad reputation with girls.”

He nodded and leaned in closer. “You’re different, I don’t know, I feel drawn to you. It’s hard to explain.” He placed my hand on his heart. “You’re making me nervous.”

I knew he was partially lying because I’d used those lines on boys plenty of times before. I decided to go along with it and I smiled.

“That’s cute, now I have to say yes.” I whispered back.

He tilted my head up with his thumb. “Well if we’re going to do this can I kiss you?”

I frowned. “What happened to cocky? Why all of a sudden are we asking? Jeez, Ant just went straight in and so did…” I trailed off before I could mention Ash.

“Who else?” He wondered.

I shrugged and smirked. “My ex, back before I moved.”

This was so not true.

He didn’t say anything but he shook his head and went in for the kill. I went along with it reluctantly and when he pulled away I tried not to look deflated and bored. I missed Ash.

It’s a pity he couldn’t care less.

“There you go; I bet that tops your ex.” He smirked and took a step back and waved. “I’ll see you tomorrow night Zarah.”

I rolled my eyes, waved and opened my door and walked inside. My mum had waited up for me but wasn’t peeking at the curtains or anything. She sat on the couch looking sleepy. I didn’t speak when I walked inside. I dumped my bag on the floor and shrugged off my coat.

“Hello to you too.” She muttered getting up from her spot on the couch.

I shrugged and walked over to her and slumped down. “I feel lousy.”

She frowned and sat back down. “Remind me again who that was?”

“Caden,” I replied evenly.
