Chapter 6
There were people staring and whispering as I entered the room with a sly smile on my face. I pulled out a chair in between a group of boys and a group of girls getting stares from the girls and nods from the boys. I grinned even more wickedly. But I wouldn’t do that to Ant yet. I didn’t even know if I was allowed to yet.
The teacher walked in after me and gave me a stern look. I shrugged and laughed. She stood up the front and almost everyone in the class either groaned or sighed.
“Now, thank you to those of you who came inside with your books and to the one of you that didn’t,” She paused to stare me down. “I’ll be watching.”
I rolled my eyes. “Did you really expect me to come in and sit down like all of the other sheep?”
She sighed and placed her things on the desk. “Yes I did, principal Mathews told me you were a polite girl. I’ve been told he’s a good judge of character, mental note not to listen to her again.”
I sighed. “You know I heard that too, and I’m pretty sure he must’ve said you were one of the drabbest people on earth.”
A few people snorted and laughed but the teacher just picked up her ruler and slapped it on the desk. “Enough!”
“Look miss, I’ll do the work, that’s all they ask of you at school right? You don’t have to worry about that but there are no promises I’ll like it.” I told her, my voice sounding tired even to me. “I’ve never liked Science.”
She nodded almost understanding. “Isn’t it a good thing this is biology then?”
“Wow, I’m not sure where you got your teachers degree, off the internet maybe? Because I’m pretty sure that biology is science.” I told her glaring the whole time.
“I could send you to Mr Mathew’s office.” She warned.
I laughed. “Cause that would so work, Mr Mathews loves me.”
One of the boys next to me tapped my leg. I looked over curiously. It was the boy I’d seen in the window yesterday, the one whose arm I’d hurt. I smiled at him and nodded to his hand.
“I hope you iced that.” I told him.
He shrugged and smiled at me again. “It was so worth it, I only have to miss out on one gig.”
“What do you mean gig?” I wondered.
“Jesse didn’t tell you? I’m part of his band, lead guitarist actually. Ant plays drums, and Andy plays bass.” He explained. “Lucky enough for me Jesse’s brother’s home so he can fill in for me.”
I nodded warily. “Huh, you should’ve told me you were a muso before I sprained your wrist. I might’ve gone a little easier on you that way.”
He flashed me a toothy grin and leaned in closer. The teacher was still up the front talking and we had to whisper so that she wouldn’t catch us out.
“Why, I didn’t think a girl like you would know anything about mercy.” He said sarcastically.
I shrugged and smiled. “When it comes to boys like you I don’t show any mercy but from time to time I do spare a muso, I like that kind of thing. They seem to be deeper, more fun you know?”
He nodded and chuckled into my hair. “I’m a better guitar player than Jesse.”
“Is that supposed to impress me?” I asked.
“You said you liked musical boys and nothing else has seemed to work. I have to admit, it’s never been this hard to persuade a girl into liking me.” He said with a mindless shrug and another award winning grin.
