Chapter 3
By the time lunchtime came around I was feeling tired. So far I’d made no friends and had only two classes with Jesse and I didn’t get to sit next to him in either of them.
He found me at my locker which he’d written down the number of and smiled at me. I shoved my books inside and pulled out an apple.
“How’s it going?” He wondered looking a little happy.
I shrugged. “Pretty average actually, I haven’t spoken to anyone besides you, Demi and those dicky guys this morning. I caught one guy checking out my butt and I slapped him, but that was it.”
He held up his fist and I bumped mine against it. “Way to go!” He cried. “Do you know who he was?”
I shrugged and looked around. “Does it matter?”
He shook his head. “I guess not.”
“What about you? How has your day been so far?” I asked him politely.
He shrugged and brushed his hand over my shoulder. “Not much different to yours.”
I nodded and locked my locker again. “What about Demi? Have you spoken to her since this morning?”
He shook his head. “Have you?”
“Nope, why would I waste my breath?” I chuckled. “If you want to spend your lunch with her then I’ll go.”
He shook his head and grabbed my arm just as I was about to turn and leave. “No, please stay with me.”
I smiled. “If it really means that much to you then, sure I’ll hang out with you.”
He relaxed instantly and we stared walking down the hall. “Thanks princess, although I have to warn you, the boys could come or Demi or anyone.”
I just nodded. “It doesn’t matter Jess, I’ll be fine.”
“I just don’t want you to break them.” He flashed me a grin and we stepped out into a big courtyard.
I laughed and punched his arm playfully. “Nah, I’m over that now. You bring out the better in me Jess.”
He laughed and sat down on the grass. “You make me feel so special Princess.”
“Are you ever going to stop calling me that?” I wondered.
“Are you ever going to stop calling me Jess?” He shot back.
I shrugged and settled down. “Touché Jesse.”
He grinned and took a bite of his sandwich. “I’ve got three brothers; I’m pretty good at it.”
“Wow, I always wanted a brother or a sister and you’ve got three. I bet you were never lonely as a kid. Always playing football and soccer and beating each other up.” I smiled in admiration imagining it.
“Yeah, it was great fun when we were kids.” He admitted.
“Why, what’s wrong with them now?” I wondered brushing a hand through my long blonde hair.
He shrugged and launched into an explanation. “Well, Alex is the eldest and he’s moved interstate and I have a twin brother but we’re at war at the moment.”
I nodded and thought about what he’d said. “You’re a twin?”
He leaned back and grinned at me again. “It’s hard to believe that there could be two people as handsome as me out there.”
I laughed at him and sighed. “What about the other brother? You said you have three.”
“He’s at a musical boarding school. He got a scholarship there and we only see him on the holidays. He really enjoys it though and he’s awesome at what he does.” Jesse told me.
