Chapter 10
“I thought you weren’t going to show.” Ash said sneakily as I shut the door securely behind me and grinned at him.
He was sitting on a table with an electric guitar in his lap. There were no windows in the room and it was soundproof and lockable, everything a noisy music room should be.
“Are you kidding me, I wouldn’t miss doing this for anything.” I told him crossing the room and stepping inside his comfort zone.
He chuckled and I felt his breath on my face. “Well I’m glad you did. The rest of them are setting up out in the hall.”
I nodded. “I know I saw them.”
“Well, we’ve got some time in here.” He grinned mischievous smile.
I leant in all the way and placed my lips on his, smiling against them as we kissed.
When he pulled back he smiled again. “This is fun.”
I nodded in agreement. “I could get used to it.”
We both laughed and then heard a knock on the door. Neither of us flinched or made a move to go and open it. Finally he sighed and stood up. Because we were so close when he stood up his body pressed against mine and he leant in for another kiss before brushing past me and walking to get to the door.
“What do you want?” He demanded angrily from the door.
“Sorry dude, just letting you know we’re ready but if I’m interrupting then I’ll just…” The voice sounded awkward.
I jogged over. “No, Ashton and I were just discussing different setups.”
Ash nodded and turned to me with an apologetic smile. I shrugged.
“So you guys are ready to go?” I wondered peering out.
The boy nodded. “We’ve just finished setting up the drum kit on the stage. Some dork called Bobby is in there to help you with the lighting so…”
I nodded. “This is going to be great, I’m Zarah.”
The boy grinned. “I know that, I’m Drew.”
I sighed and pushed Ash out the door to get him to move. We all walked in silence together to the auditorium and opened to big doors and up the stairs onto the stage. They had their own drum kit that read on the front the name of their band, ashenophobia, two guitars and a bass. There was a microphone stand up the front with no microphone in it and I looked up into the tiny box at the top of the hall and motioned Bobby down.
“I’ve been waiting ages for you Zarah.” He sighed. “Do you want the backdrop?”
I nodded. “I want the band name and symbol on it, like what’s on the drum kit. Drew, would you mind going up there and showing him the image?”
He nodded and hopped off the stage and up the stairs with Bobby walking behind him.
I turned to Ash. “Wanna’ help me pull down the backdrop.”
He crossed his arms over his chest and sighed. “If I have to.”
We walked to the back of the stage and Ash pulled a step ladder out so that I could reach the top of it.
“You’re a great actor.” I whispered to him.
He shrugged and bumped me with his hip. “I’m okay I guess.”
I grinned. “You’re too modest.”
“Only because it’s you.” He replied leaning down towards my face.
