Caden led me to the same lane as Jesse and Kira which just happened to be the lane beside Ash and the girl. I sat down beside Jesse and gave him a tiny hug hello then turned to Kira. I recognised her now; she was the one who had thought I was dating Jesse.

She winked at me and I smiled back.

“Zarah and I will go and get us some drinks.” She declared standing up and grabbing my hand. When the boys were out of ear shot she giggled. “Thank you so much for setting us up Zarah! I’ve had a crush on Jesse Webb since second grade!”

I peered over at Jesse talking to Caden they both looked over at us and I looked away. “I’m not sure why you’re thanking me; I didn’t set you guys up.”

“You told me he was single, it’s almost the same thing.” She rolled her eyes. “Anyways, thank you.”

I laughed. “It was my pleasure.”

She turned to the boy behind the counter and ordered four cokes. I felt something on my back. I turned to see Ash grinned at me. “Hey band mate, can I grab you for a sec? I’ve had a really good idea.”

I smiled and turned Kira. “I’ll be back in a minute okay, you can go back to the lane, and it’s just band stuff.”

I snuck off after Ash before Kira could respond.

He raised an eyebrow at me. “Just band stuff huh?”

He pulled me to his chest and kissed me once quickly. I pulled back and frowned at him.

“That’s what you said.” I informed him. “I’m on a date so make it quick.”

“Huh, so am I. What am I doing here kissing you?” He said with a noticeable roll of his eyes.

“Who is she?” I wondered poking my neck out to see her.

He looked past me and frowned. “Her name’s Liana.”

I nodded. “She’s pretty.”

“Not as pretty as you though.” He said cheekily pulling me closer again.

“Don’t even say that, you’ve practically got yourself a girlfriend over there.” I said nodding towards Liana.

He frowned at me. “Um so do you, if you haven’t noticed.”

I rolled my eyes. “At least you know about mine, you could have told me.”

“I don’t understand, I thought we agreed this was just this?” He asked sounding a little confused. “We’re not really going out remember? You made me promise I wouldn’t tell.”

I sighed. “So you don’t care if I see other people? You’re not jealous and you don’t want to ever date me is that it?”

I lifted my chin up with the tip of his thumb. “It was all your idea. You were the first one to see someone else; I just assumed you wouldn’t care.”

“You know what I don’t care, if it doesn’t make you feel anything to see me with Caden then let’s just stop this.” I said ripping myself from his arms. “I’ll see you around Ash.”

He looked horrified. “You’re dumping me because of this? You started it.” He reminded me. “And if that’s how you feel then let’s just forget it ever happened huh?”

I nodded and turned the other way. “I was thinking that anyway.”

I walked back over to Kira and the boys and smiled. Caden had picked out a ball for me and Kira was taking her turn at throwing the ball down the lane.
