Chapter 9
Jesse gave me a lift to school on Monday again. I slowly walked over to his house in my new jimmy choos and watched Ash peer at me from the front window. It was dark so I couldn’t see his face but I knew they were his eyes by the glow of green that came from them. I winked over at him and his eyes sparkled as if he were laughing.
“Have a quiet Sunday did we?” Jesse wondered opened the door for me. “I didn’t see you around, I was kind of hoping we could hang.”
I shrugged and climbed in beside him.
The truth was I’d slept in until lunchtime and I’d only woken up because somehow Ash had snuck around to the window and climbed the tree. He’d tapped on the window and I had jumped awake and practically fallen off the edge of my bed.
“I didn’t have the energy to do much.” I explained hardly lying at all. “What about you? What did you do yesterday?”
“I planned on going out of the house to get away from Ashton but he had a band rehearsal or something so I invited over the guys and we watched you change from my balcony.” He said with a wave of the hand.
I laughed, clearly this wasn’t true. I didn’t get changed all day. “Yeah right, because you guys would waste your time doing that.”
He chuckled and shook his head. “Nah, but Caden was tempted. Ant talked them out of it, he said something about your human rights.” He rolled his eyes. “I think he’s over it now.”
I breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good.”
He nodded and pulled into the almost full car park of our school. “Maybe you could join us at lunch.”
“Mm, maybe.” I muttered.
“Why not, have you got plans already?” He laughed. “Hanging with Cleo or something?”
I shrugged again and looked away. “Maybe, I might go hang out in the music room and take pictures or something.”
This was a half-truth. Yesterday Ash and I had organised to meet in the music corridor so that I could take some snapshots of him and his band for my photography class. I had the picture of Jesse tucked away in my backpack and I pulled it out to show him.
“Like it?” I wondered handing it to him.
It hadn’t turned out as well as I’d hoped. Jesse was good looking and the lighting really did bring out his eyes and golden tanned skin but that wasn’t what I wanted anymore.
He nodded deep in thought. “It turned out nice, don’t you think?”
I shrugged and shoved it back into my bag. “If you like it that much then when I’m done you can keep it. Give it to your next girlfriend.”
“I could hand it into a modelling agency don’t you think?” He asked teasing a little.
I nodded but I wasn’t listening to whatever he was saying now. I was captivated watching Ash walk through the school gate his shaggy hair blowing in the wind and the light of his eyes and the dangerous look of his leather jacket and guitar case in hand. I pulled out my camera and started shooting him.
When I was done I turned back to Jesse. “Sorry what did you say?”
“I asked what you thought of our band the other night.” He told me piercing my eyes with a funny look. “Are you alright?”
I nodded and tried to laugh it off. “I’m fine; I’ll see you in English yeah?”
I got out the car and waved before walked quickly inside the school grounds.
