Chapter 21

I finally reach school and I am so exhausted from running all that way. The whole time I was thinking about what Mrs. Malls will say and whether I will get in trouble or not. And mostly, I was wondering who dobbed me in.

I walk through the halls and stand out the front of Mrs. Malls office. I take a deep breath and reassure myself that everything will be okay.

I knock on the door and she opens it.

"Hello Macey, come have a seat" she says. Her office is so nice. She has two brown leather seats in front of her beautiful big wooden desk. She has a massive bookshelf and an ugly rug. It's such a typical principals office.

"I'm so sorry Mrs. Malls!" I blurt out and start to cry.

"Macey, don't cry. You're not going to be suspended"

"What?"

"Well, although what you did was very wrong, your perfect school record makes the punishment not as bad. We know that you are a good student and we know that you would never do any of this deliberately without being under peer pressure but we are still very disappointed that you would break the rules like this."

"Yes, I know what I did was wrong, but thank you so much for not suspending me! My chances for a bright future would be destroyed if anything worse happened"

"But, you still have a punishment Macey"

"Oh, yeah, I know Mrs. Malls"

"Well your punishment is detention everyday for the next two weeks after school. This way, we want you to reflect on your bad actions"

"Yes, I know, thank you Mrs. Malls"

"Yes, well have a good day Macey, don't get into anymore trouble, next time, the consequence will be worse"

"Yes Mrs. Malls, and you have a good day too" I say and exit the office doors.

By the time the meeting finishes its lunchtime, I have nobody to sit with. Skylar is never away from school!

I grab my lunch and decide to sit in our usual spot. As I walk there, I don't see any from the group. Skylar was right, they did ditch school but where did they go, and why was it that I got caught. It's so unfair. The thought comes back into my head as for who dobbed me in. And why. I need to find this out.

I decide to go back to Mrs. Malls office and investigate.

As I reach the door, I knock and walk in, she is still sitting at her desk.

"Um, Mrs. Malls, I just had a question for you"

"Ah, Macey, yes hello, what can I do for you?"

"Well, I mean I'm not sure if your allowed to share this information, but I promise I wont tell anyone, but I was wondering, who told you that I ditched school?"

"HMM, I thought you would come back and ask me that, I think you deserve to know who did it though and that is why I am going to tell you"

"Well... who was it?"

"I'm sorry Macey, I know you guys are very close, but it was Skylar," she says with sympathy. What!! Skylar! No this can't be happening! OH MY GOSH! I think as I can feel tears streaming down my face.
