We were at the border of town and already we'd killed a small group of rogue vampires in a house dining on a few humans like exquisite wine. We didn't make it forty feet to that house without the reek of spoiled and new blood stinging our noses. It was too late to save any of the humans and I felt bad for the families who would miss them.

The vampires definitely deserved to die and if I could go back, I would have prolonged their deaths. We left the house burning on fire with them, including the humans in it. I didn't want to leave any trace of the vampires and the humans as proof of our possible existence.

"You and Nina good again?" Bran asked cautiously.

He was asking me a personal question and not too long ago I would have frowned at his question. I respected Bran and knew he was only being supportive. He was also my second and deserved an answer since my relationship was affecting the pack. "For now." I grimaced from the answer I gave him. I gleamed up to the sun, the rays of its heat annoying me. "I want to believe everything is behind us but...there not. I'm still a hybrid. I can never give Nina all she wants. And...I'll always be sired to Elena. Always. But, I am still my own person and Can run a pack. It was not something I desired first coming back. But I do now."

"It has been an honor following you. Just so you know." Jerome walked further up a distant and alone as Sonia walked with Cullen quietly, leaving me alone with Bran.

The heat was coming on much stronger in the last hour that I kept glaring up at the sky as if demanding it to dim it's rising temperature. "Do you still love Nina?"

"Of course," I said briskly. I frowned blowing a breath out. The question alone made me snarl at Bran's ambiguity of my love for Nina. With each step the road turned into more of a concrete covering as a nearby diner came into view. A few cars parked in the small parking lot. "It's Nina who I think is questioning us...though I will admit...I am changing."

"She's just scared." Bran and I hadn't talked much. Our relationship was mostly in the realm of pack business. It was different, though it felt great to be able to speak freely with him on a personal level. "Just know...I support you."

I turned to him a moment wondering what he was trying to say.

"You want to check this place out Alpha?" Jerome asked.

I sniffed the air and nodded. "There's a few Weres in here. They don't carry a negative scent...but...let's check it out."

The diner was small but looked unique and welcoming. I supposed if there were any dangerous rogue Weres inside they would have definitely darkened this diner. It was too bright and friendly to carry any evil energy.

Bran walked up, opening the double swinging glass door giving me room to walk in first.

Ten feet in front of my path was white counters that stretched like a wide square around with an older lady on the other end at the register. She greeted me with a smile. Her hair was mostly filled with gray as glasses rested on her nose. Her heavy set build suggested she enjoyed the meals she was serving as much as her customers.

I only took notice because that's how I use to enjoy them in my early rogue years. I was different with baleful and cannibalistic tendencies back then.
Holding in those guilty times I hunted humans was something I could never share with my pack.

"Hey young lady..." She noticed Bran, Sonia, Cullen, and Jerome standing behind me..."oh...seems we have a whole group of you."

My eyes wondered around not paying any attention to the woman. My green eyes scouted out for the Weres, sliding my fingers through my unkempt shoulder length hair. I was a wearing blue plaid shirt with the sleeves cut off short from the top of my shoulders along my armpits. It was just enough to cover the scars on my back but not feel to hot from the sun's brutality. I gave the diner another look at with a notice near the older woman's register saying it was for sale. I couldn't see how with how many people were here now.
