Nina

   "Nina..."
Kaylee's voice woke me, stirring under the sheets to feel her arm wrapped around me, head cradled against my shoulder.

I kept my eyes closed listening to Kaylee's heartbeat. It was relaxed despite for nearly sixteen hours she slipped into one nightmare after the next, her heartbeat rapid. "Hmm?" I ran my hand that was curled around her back over her hair.

"Do you think mom is alive?"

I took a deep breath smelling the salty tears that fell from her eyes. "Hey...if your mom was gone, we'd know."

   "How?"

I smiled. "We're pack. You're her daughter. We would all feel the loss."

Kaylee laid quiet and than asked further. "What would it feel like?"
A pain that I would not be able to survive through. "It would feel dreading and haunting. Despair. Lost. Aching." I sat up forcing her to do the same. Shaking myself out of that mindset I looked at Kaylee. "But we both know...your mom is to strong and brave to leave us."

Kaylee nodded. Abasing her head, she asked shyly. "Do you...miss her?"

God, I did. I blinked a few times to take away the liquid in my eyes. I was not ready to cry. "Of course. I love your mommy."

   "But...you two haven't been happy."

"Who told you that?" I felt defensive of my relationship with Mckayla, knowing she was right. Mckayla and I weren't together anymore and still, in my mind, I couldn't let her go.

"No one. I have eyes. And ears."

I sighed. How many times had Mckayla and I argued and Kaylee overheard? "Sometimes, when two people love each other, there are elements that get in the way of that love."

"Do you still want to be with mom?"

My heart fluttered. "More than anything." I looked toward the door. "I will always love your mom and no matter what happens between your mom and I we will always be apart of each other and you."

Kaylee nodded. "I just want you to be happy. If that's not with mom anymore, I will be by your side and mom's."

   I chuckled. "Good to know."

I looked back toward the door after brushing a kiss over Kaylee's head. A knock came two seconds after.

"I'll be right out." Footsteps headed back toward the stairs and I groaned. "I'm hungry. What about you?"

I already knew the answer from her stomach growling and her eyes glowing. Through the blinds covering the window, I could see the dark sky. "Come on. I'll make you a combination of breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

Kaylee hopped out of bed racing me down the stairs and we both halted by the sight of Laurie and Karen.

I held my index finger up, walking into the living room to grab my phone I left down here the night before. Seventeen left messages, all from Bran and Rachel."

Kaylee was hugging Laurie when I arched my brows at her in frustration. I called Bran back speaking with him for a moment and than stood quiet, assessing the situation.

Rogue arms were crossed as if she wouldn't mind disciplining them herself.

Sam walked into the house with her mate. "New plan." She quieted once she saw our new guest.

Laurie looked back at Sam and twisted her back to my side, afraid of the unknown dominant faces.

Karen held on tight to Laurie like a protective mate.
