Nina
"What is it, Cormic?" Cormic wasn't as great of an actor as he thought, giving me that, 'I don't know what you mean,' gaze. "Obviously, you want to talk to me about something."
Cormic looked back off to the house and I followed his gaze straight to Rogue who was giving him a harsh look. By the vivid expression on her face, Rogue wanted to beat her brothers ass. When Rogue saw me staring at her, her face shifted unreadable, turning away.
That earned a curious glare back from her to Cormic. "Why didn't you want Rogue walking me?" Before Cormic could come up with a lie, both my eyes targeted him, prepared to scrutinize every word that came into his mouth. He was about the only dominant wolf I could do that to without issue.
"That's not relevant," Cormic said, brushing my curiosity aside.
"Not relevant..." I was displeased by that response. Clearly it was relevant.
It was too dark outside and since there was no electricity of power lights, the only thing lighting our ambiance was our packs home and the moon. There was a lot of open land, mostly dirt and patches of grass here and there. Trees and thick bushes were noticed every so often.
"What's going on? Is there something that happened while you two were off bonding?" I asked, sarcastically.
"Let's focus on why I wanted to walk you."
Cormic was not going to give me the answers I wanted. That was fine. I would go to Rogue later.
"Why did you want to have me alone?" I went along with what he wanted asking the obvious question.
"Not to be nosy..."
"But you are..." I added for him.
He shrugged. "You and Kayla don't seem too great..."
Why did I not see this as the conversation he wanted to talk about. "Look...I appreciate how much you care...but this is none of your business."
"And you're right," Cormic agreed. There was something inside, that told me he was not going to drop this. He sighed facing a head, pondering in thought. Cormic had a structure of one of those Greek men seen in many old historical books or statue for the world to see. His jaw structure showed every slanted curve, eyes fierce, and curly brown hair with a touch of blonde. He looked like one of those gladiators off of Spartacus. I didn't practice the use of a television often but when I did, that was one of my favorite shows to watch. "You know I was mated once?"
I shook my head, baffled by the small confession of his past. "I'm sorry...I didn't."
He waved me off, but I noticed he slowed the pace of our walking until we finally stopped. "She was beautiful...and funny...and cute."
I smiled, taken back by him sharing this piece of himself with me.
"Her name was Jeanine. She had me. And I loved her." Cormic's own smile projected to me and I smiled as well. "We were mated for six years." I waited for Cormic to continue, not wanting to interrupt him. "I lost her."
I pressed my hand over his forearm. "I'm sorry."
Cormic chuckled, waving my words away. "She didn't die...she left me."
I frowned. "But...she was your mate." As I said that, my own words held confusion and fear in his message.
"No, she wasn't."
Now I was very confused.
"My mate was human," Cormic stated. That clarified nothing. "You can be mated to a human but it's a gamble of your love when that mate turns."
