Nina
"You've been quiet." Christian opened the door to my passenger side.
"I didn't sleep well."
He gave me a swift nod.
When I looked up at where we were, I parted my lips with a heavy sigh. "A coffee house. I would have thought you couldn't enter a church."
Christian smiled casually. "That's a myth." He slid one hand in his slacks pants pocket, pointing his other in the direction of the coffee house.
"Homes, we need permission. Buildings, rather business or recreational...we can walk straight through. No matter. Unless, there's ash wood, layered across the door.""What do you need me to do?"
Christian stared wide eyed at the coffee house. "Her names Lizabeth." We both turned to the sound of swift movement inside the coffee house. It was after eight and closed. Only person that would be inside, Lizabeth I supposed.
"Who is she?" I frowned, asking a more thorough question. "What is she?"
"She's actually a Nephilim."
"Excuse me?" What the hell was a Nephilim. My mind swirled with the thought of all the new information to the supernatural world. Have I been this blind?
"She has Angel blood coursing through her. She's human, yet different. She can detect any supernatural that she crosses paths with. Any. As well as enhanced strength, speed, and endurance. Not as a God as you or I. But good enough."
"What are you doing here? You know I am forbidden to see and speak of you."
The woman shouted through the walls of her coffee house, steam in her tone. She sounded at least in her early forties.
"I will not be coming in to speak with you." Christian went back to the driver seat. "Tell her, Jules needs to be awakened. Tell her all that is happening. About, Mckayla. Who she is. What she is."
I was more confused than ever. "What is this about? How will that help us and who is Jules?"
Christian pointed to the door. "All your questions will be answered, once you go inside and do as I ask. I mean that in the most gracious way. This is for you, Mckayla and your pack. For all."
Every part of me said to trust him. Christian had yet to stir any of us wrong. I studied him and then my path to the coffee house. "Okay."
"I'll be out here once you're through."
I nodded, closing the passenger door and walking causally to the coffee house door. I hoped my non dominant aroma would come through to this woman and not find me as a threat.
"Who are you?" The woman shouted through the door. "I know what you are." Her voice dropped low and hush like. I suppose knowing I could still hear her, Lizabeth knew exactly what I was.
"I'm a friend," I swallowed in enough fear to vocalize, "of oh...Christian. If that's even a good thing." My last statement fell into a whisper, talking more to myself. I cleared my throat a few inches from the door. My hands shook just a little. I had to remind my wolf that Christian would not put me in harm's way like this. "My name's...Nina."
The door opened. A distant shadow stood. "Come in and close it."
I looked back one last time, Christian nodded for me to go in and I did.
"Why did, christ--" she snarled, stuttering and cutting off her words as she bit into her own lip. I watched as she winced in pain, punching down on her counter. The thump was loud enough to break bone. "Fuck."
