Mckayla
I sat down beside Nina trying to hold in the temper rising inside of me. From where I was sitting, one side wanted me to be all about dropping Elena out my life while the other end wanted me to be all for Elena.
She was my sire. That's it's. I love Nina.
"Kayla..." Cormic leaned to my side whispering as low as possible as our host talked. "You okay?"
I looked around to a few Weres and vampires checking me out. I had no time for gossip. I gave Cormic a glare that told him to save his concerns for later.
"There are many of you who have not lived passed a hundred and many that have. Quite a few who have been around since our last council meeting over five hundred years ago." Our vampire host scanned the room. "It is tradition...before we officially begin this meeting, to allow an opportunity for a new rise in position no matter the race."
My eyes narrowed around putting myself out there now that I would kill any who challenged me. I was too angry not too.
Sam's words on questioning my feelings for Nina were bugging the shit out of me. I knew who I cared about. I loved Nina.
I hated leaving you.
Fuck. Not now. I chose to ignore the connection Elena was using to talk to me.
Please understand. I thought I was doing right by you.
Get out of my head. I stifled a snarl, my body suddenly growing cold. My eyes staid stern and wide, watching the host go on.
We can pretend whatever you want. Just let me correct my mistake and help you.
No.
Nina placed her hand on my lap and I stiffened, straining the muscles in my neck.
I mustered the best smile I could create, kissing Nina on the cheek to let her know I was fine.
Nina leaned over, whispering, "You no longer have to pretend with me."
I have Nina a smile, relieved she wasn't angry. She could tell Elena was talking to me.
Now you're being a show off.
"Fuck...leave me alone." I snarled realizing that I had said that loud enough to have the entire gathering turn to me. Fuck. More attention on me than I need right now.
I didn't just have a tantrum. Was Elena cracking jokes at me?I
My eyes swerved around easily finding Elena sitting in a seat thirty feet from me on my left upward side.
Nina squeezed my hand."Well...let's see if we can clear your mind," the host said with a comical tone that eased the crowd into laughing. "We have one special challenge that will be held at the end of the council meeting. One that I agree is long overdue."
Sam stood up, with an iron crease around her eyes that told me she was more than ready to take on the role as Alpha. "I will be challenging the Alpha of Ohio tonight."
"Sam...don't be ridiculous." Her Alpha stood with perplexity.
My eyes crossed to Jeanine, Sam's Alpha mate. "Sam. Sit down. You have no right to challenging my mate."
"Last time I checked ... a Were does not need a reason to challenge an Alpha. But I'm sure she has many reasons." Cormic added his own input to Sam's open challenge to Ohio Alpha.
The room chattered, giving their personal inputs on the situation, intrigued to see a fight.
My eyes roamed, wanting everyone to keep their inputs to themselves.
