Ashton

"Hello," I answered my phone, not looking at the caller I.D
"Ashton, what the fuck?" Oh shit it was Bryana, I don't know why I didn't expect this, after posting the photo of Lex and I on Instagram
"What do you mean babe?" I asked, acting stupid. I couldn't let her know what had been going on
"Whose the girl in the photo? And what's this about you and Luke performing at some dive bar?"
"Lex is an old friend from school," I said honestly, except I left out the bit about how we dated for basically three and a half years. Yeah we broke up when she moved to Melbourne, but when we saw each other it was like nothing had changed; and honestly? It still felt exactly the same, and even though we weren't technically were together, it felt like we were, it felt right; and if I'm being completely honest, it still did. It felt so fucking real, more so than whatever the fuck I was doing with Bryana, "she was my best friend for more than ten years,"
"But what about the comments Ash?" She complained. It was then that I saw Lex walk up to me
Everything okay? She mouthed
I nodded, and mouthed back Bryana
"It's not right!" She cried, "I'm your girlfriend,"
"You are babe," I said, although I was actually so close to breaking up with her over the phone, "what the fans say isn't my choice, you know that," I was just hoping she didn't see the comment my sister made. I made a mental note, to text Lauren and tell her to delete the comment before she saw it
"But Ash, your sister said something," fuck
"What did she say babe?" I asked, knowing exactly what Lauren's comment was
"You used to date her?"
"Yeah we tried, but then she moved to Melbourne, and we lost contact after we opened for One Direction," it was sort of the truth, I just didn't elaborate on it
"Ash it honestly looks like you're cheating on me, and after that thing with that girl earlier this week..."
"Bree, baby," I said, "I'm not cheating on you," I lied, "why would I? You're the one for me," another lie
"I hope you're not lying,"
"I'm not,"
"If I messaged Elle, and asked her, what would she say?" Unless Luke had told Briella that I was in fact hooking up with Lex, she would tell her that I wasn't
"She'd tell you I'm not," I said, hoping that was going to be the case, "baby look, I gotta go,"
"Ash we've hardly spoken since you got to Melbourne!" She whined
"I know baby, I know," fuck this was getting annoying, "but honestly, I'm trying so hard to mend my friendship with Lex,"
"Why though? She clearly doesn't appreciate you,"
"Because I kind of stopped talking to her after it was announced we'd be opening for One Direction," I said, knowing that if I kept in contact with Lex we'd probably be together again
"Well she seemed completely fine in that photo," Bryana scoffed
"It was a fake smile babe, I've known her for so long, I can tell when a smile of hers is fake, just like I can with you," Lex's smile wasn't fake in the slightest. It was exactly the same as it was in the photos we took together when we were together, apart from the ones from New Years 2012. They were forced smiles, on both of our parts. It wasn't that we fell out of love with each other; it clearly wasn't the case in the slightest. It was more that we were going to have to let go of what we had. What we were. We both knew things were changing, but I guess we weren't ready to let go, so we put on those fake smiles to try and hide it and to make the other believe that everything was going to stay the same. At the time, I don't think either of us picked up on those fake smiles, it was either that or we just completely ignored it. Thinking of that time actually broke my heart
"Okay, look I have to go, I'm running late," she said, "I'll call you tomorrow your time?"
"Sure babe," I said, "I'll text you though, I'm having lunch with Lex and her mum," I lied, but I knew I could probably make that happen
"Whatever," she scoffed and then hung up the phone.

I walked back inside, completely frustrated and with a need to bang out my frustration, literally, "let's get out of here,"
"Now?" She asked, looking slightly confused
"Yep,"
"Alright, I'll just say good bye,"
"Okay," I nodded

She walked over to the bar and saw that guy Mason, she seemed to have a small conversation with him. And I could tell that he had some form of crush on her, and it made me so fucking jealous, "look I gotta get back to work, I'll see you round Lex," I heard him say, about a minute later. I took that as my time to interrupt
"Ready to go babe?" I asked and she nodded
"Yeah, see ya Mase," she said, and following me towards the others.
