I awoke from a dreamless sleep to an empty bed. I didn't know how I should have felt but for a brief moment I felt relief, not because he wasn't there but because I thought I was back in my own room. I sat up and looked around, the blinds were pulled and there was almost no light in the room making it feel cold and a bit scary. then , I realized it was probably late so i scrambled around the room looking for my phone with no success. I ran my hand through my hair and felt around for the door handle because my eyes weren't really adjusted. Just when I felt the handle the door swung open and hit me in the face, hard.
"Oh my god! Pam, I'm so sorry!" i heard a familiar voice exclaim. i should have figured Demitri would open the door in my face. He seemed like the kind of person who would do that. I sat down on the floor holding my nose, a bit dizzy. Demitri crouched down next to me.
"I promise I didn't mean to do that, hold on I'll go get some ice." He said. I didn't even feel him leave my side and seconds after he said it there was a cool and reliving feeling on my forehead and top of my nose.
"It's okay. That was just surprising. I wasn't expecting the door to come flying open at my face." I said laughing a little. My face stung and there was a dull ringing in my ears.
"Geez, I'll make it up to you, just please don't tell Damon." He pleaded sounding kind of scared. It was understandable, from what I knew Damon was the boss and Demitri was supposed to be protecting me...not slamming doors into my face.
"It's okay. As for making it up to me...." I trailed off thinking about all the things I could say. I heard Demirtri gulp and chuckled lightly. "Just kidding silly. Just help me up." I said still laughing a little.
"You've got it, dude." He said standing up and grabbing my free hand, pulling me up with him. I, of course, lost my balance and fell forward into his arms. "Geez, if you wanted me so bad you could have just said so." He said laughing as I stood back up, glaring at him.
"I wasn't aware I had a choice." I spat at him suddenly very angry. He of all people knew I couldn't just pick who I wanted to be with. He knew that I barely had any choices anymore. He knew, I was so overcome with rage I didn't notice that my nose had started bleeding and blood was running down my face and landing on the white carpet.
"Pam, that's not what I meant!" He exclaimed. I stood up and rushed out the door not wanting to listen to him. Obviously I forgot that he was a vampire and that he could catch me when he wanted to. "Pam." He questioned quietly as he grabbed my wrist. I turned around to face him.
"Don't. Touch. Me." I demanded through gritted teeth. I managed to rip my wrist free and walk away from him. I walked around the maze like house trying to find the door. When I did find it I had finally realized that my nose was bleeding. I wrenched open the door and walked out slamming it behind me. I stormed across the lawn down the road continually wiping my nose causing my hand to become red and sticky.
I walked down the deserted road not really sure where I was going, I could have walked to my house but I wasn't thinking straight. I heard a noise behind me and turned around but seeing nothing continued walking. I heard a rustling in the bushes that were ahead of me to the left. I walked to the opposite side of the road and wiped my nose again. I know I should have been looking up and holding my nose but I didn't feel like sitting still.
I started hearing foot steps and turned around in a circle trying to find where they came from. 'Your just being paranoid.' I thought to myself. I shrugged it off and continued walking. By now I was on the deserted side of the neighborhood where there weren't any houses or cars. The roads were all covered with thick trees so it was almost like it was sunset. I kept hearing the noises, though, and was getting a little scared.
