The journey there was quiet and awkward. My mind was full of thoughts and I didn't feel like talking to anyone. Judy tried making small talk from time to time and would say things like "the kids are so excited to meet you." And "you're going to love it here." All I could manage was a small smile.
We finally got there and pulled into a stony driveway. The building was massive with 2 minibuses pulled up by the side of it. 'How many kids lived here?' I thought to myself.
I pulled my case out of the car and pulled it across to the door. Judy put the key in the lock and turned it. Already I heard what sounded like a young child call "they're back!"
My heart started beating fast.
As the door opened I saw brightly orange painted walls with sunshines and rainbows painted on them. Pictures that people had drawn hung up on a notice board along with some flyers and timetables. To the left of the hallway there were umbrellas hanging up and coats and shoes that had been put away.
Immediately I was greeted by an older man who was tall and had very little hair on his head, followed by a younger man, around 27 years old with brown gelled up hair.
"Hello Lauren, my names Paul" the older man reached out and shook my hand.
"And I'm Jake." The younger man shook my hand soon after.
"I've just got to sort out the rest of your paperwork, in the meantime Jake will take you up to your room and show you around." Paul told me giving me a warm smile.
Jake picked up my case and smiled too. "Follow me." He beckoned walking towards the stairs.
We reached the top and turned a corner to reveal a white door that stood at the end of the hallway. Jake opened it to let me in first. It was small. The walls painted white. There was a window to the garden, a simple bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
"We'll go out to buy new furniture for you, but for the meantime this is it." Jake told me.
"Thank you." I replied looking around.
"Ok, let's go meet the kids." He said..
