I waited patiently for Josh to return while he brought down the plates. I searched for the small compact mirror in my bag and checked to make sure my makeup hadnt smudged. I then reapplied another coat of lipgloss before slipping it back into my bag. As I reached for my glass of water, I caught a quick glance at one of Josh's canvas's propped up against an easel. It was a close up painting of a girl. She had elegant blonde hair that flowed perfectly around her face. Her eyes were a turquoise blue colour. She was beautiful and her expression was happy, but the background was dark which showed that she was broken. It was a very emotional painting. There were many other paintings of this girl. It made me wonder who it was. I stood up from my seat and went to take a closer look. It seemed that in all the pictures painted of her, there was always a negative point in it. Wether it be the colours, the background or her expression. My thoughts were soon interrupted by Josh walking in.
"Oh...umm. Sorry I was just looking." I apologised feeling quite rude.
He scratched the back of his neck nervously. "It's fine."
"Who is she?" I asked, eager to find out.
"Ummm...its...."
I turned around to face him waiting for an answer.
"It's you." He blushed
"Wait, what? You painted me? I asked in disbelief.
"Yeah I did." His mesmerising eyes finally meeting mine.
I didn't know what to say. A surge of electric shot up my spine. It made me feel...happy. "Why?" I asked, confused.
"Because..because you're beautiful. And, and I always paint things that make me happy."
I felt my cheeks flush a dark shade of red. I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear. "Thank you."
He gave a nervous smile.
I walked over to one painting. "Why am I crying in this one?" I asked.
"Remember that night, When you were telling me about your past and everything and about your brother, it really got to me. I didn't like seeing you upset. And, I don't know, it made me feel like painting. And you were the first thing that came to my mind. Yeah, you're probably thinking it sounds really gay"
"I think it's cute." I giggled.
I ran up to him and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight hug. I felt him wrap his arms around my waist, hugging me back. Silence filled the room, not the awkward type of silence though. As we released Josh spoke.
"Lauren, I..umm. I need to tell you something." He said giving me direct eye contact.
That's when my nerves started to kick in.
