I'm scared. Lost. Alone.
I started to walk back the way I think I came until my phone started ringing, it was mum.
"Um hello?"I said
"L...Lau...Lauren...Where?"
Hearing her voice made me start to cry.
"Where are...where are you..?" She finally managed to ask
"I..I don't know" I replied through tears.
I heard my dad shout something in the background and the line went dead.
I leaned back against a wall and cried. I just wanted to curl up and die.
Suddenly I heard footsteps behind me.
My heart pounded against my chest. Who could it be?
I walked back into the shadows to try to hide but stood on my undone shoelace, tripped and fell onto the hard concrete floor. A sharp pain shot through my elbows where I landed on them.
The footsteps stopped in front of me.
"hello?" a husky voice said.
I recognised it straight away. It was Dylan Jordan. He was one of the popular boys from school, the one that always got into trouble. The one that would flirt with all the girls. But not me. He'd never talk to me.
I didn't reply, hoping he'd walk away. He shone the light from his phone on me.
"Lauren, is that you?" he asked.
"Oh, um, hi Dylan" I said shyly.
He held out his hand to help me up. I got up and started to brush the dirt off me.
"What are you doing round here? Are you crying?"
"No, um, it's just....the rain" I said without thinking.
"But it wasn't raining?" he said.
"Oh...Umm"
He laughed.
I feel like such an idiot, why do I always have to embarrass myself.
"You shouldn't be out this late, let me walk you home" he offered with a smile.
I didn't want to say no so I agreed, but why was he being so nice to me? I'm hardly ever noticed at school.
We walked back past the group of boys, but they were too busy messing around to notice us.
We finally reached my house.
"Well here it is, thanks a lot for walking me back, I really appreciate it." I thanked him.
"No worries, hey I'll see you at school tomorrow yeah?"
"yeah, umm see ya" I said as he walked off.
I walked up the steps to my house and opened the front door. I saw my mum asleep on the sofa in the living room. I crept up the stairs. It was quiet. My dad had probably gone down the pub again.
I went to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. My mascara had run all down my cheeks from where I was crying and my hair was all windswept. I saw the dried blood on my elbows from where I had fallen. I looked a complete mess. I tidied myself up and tied my hair up into a bun.
I had 2 exams tonorrow, science and maths so I decided to do some studying, ready for another day at school.....
