Chapter 6

'What happened, everything was going so well.' Or was it, since that night they had been interrupted, he had been so close, they were so close together. Moon seemed to have distanced herself from him. What had that Mr Lindgreen said to her? 'What have I done to upset her?'

"Still thinking about that girl?" The woman that sat at the desk across from him; piling the papers on his desk. Grace had her own desk but it was much easier at times to use his, especially when there was less paper work. She was in her early thirties, she acted more like an older wiser sister to Victor then an assistant. Her face was a little worn from her time with her children and working with the Slum royalty. Victor rubbed his face wondering if he was going to end up looking older than his years working in his line of work. Even if he had a choice he would still do this job, true it was dangerous and stressful but the benefits were worth the pain.

"Yes, she's a little confusing at times." He smiled glancing down at his papers.

"She's almost seventeen, she doesn't even know herself yet give her time, and you said you two were close." She passed another pile of papers onto the pile Victor had to read.

"We did, I think I must have said something to scare her away." He paused putting the paper down and glancing at the door leading into the tunnels to other Dukes and Duchess. "What do you know of a Lindgreen?"

"Lindgreen, Lord Lindgreen?" Grace asked, she had an amazing mass of knowledge in her mind, she could recall the colour of a buckle that he wore on his first day of work if you asked her.

"No a younger Lindgreen, does Lord Lindgreen have any sons, unmarried?"

Grace scrawled her brow in concentration her eyes blanked as she mindlessly stared frown at the paper in front of her. "He has two sons and two daughters, only one of his sons are legitimate, the rest are from different mistresses."

"What can you say about his sons?"

"His sons?" She tilted her head a little as she processed the information, "Both are unmarried as far as I'm aware, his illegitimate son ran away when he was fifteen, no word has been heard of him since. His oldest son, Daniel Lindgreen, is like his dad, no a little more ruthless. Would you like a tag on him?"

"No it's the other one I'm interested in, what was his name again?"

"I didn't say, his name is Luke Lindgreen."

The name struck a chord within Victor, it seemed to fit the person that had wanted to dance with Moon. "When was the last time we contacted our informative in the Murri household?" Victor was one of the few Dukes and Duchess' that knew who the King really was. Not many had met him in person, many had only met messengers but a good Duke always had an informative in each of the influential houses, both slums and upper class.

"About 6 months would you like an update?" Grace asked getting up, she was only 5 foot 1 but the papers almost piled over her head.

"Yes please and while you're at it, ensure you've updated on all the informative, I want an update every fortnight from them."
